Academy of the Dark Ones discussion

Hi! So I was looking through stuff and I had a question: what are the dark talents mentioned in the template for character creations?

so basically it's talking about powers and stuff. like can your character control shadows, or make poison, or is good at alchemy etc.

ooh okay. and its any power ever, so long as they use it for dark/more evil tendencies?

so for a few different characters I have in mind, I'm thinking:

1.) being able to lock eyes with someone and show them their worst fear
2.) storm creation/manipulation
3.) earth manipulation (earthquakes and vibrations and landslides and plants)
4.) someone really good at making drugs and poisons with herbs and plants?

So, this totally slipped my mind and I'm not sure if we've spoken about it, but is there a uniform at this school? I'd like to know for when I get into my character's clothing and appearance.

what kind of abnormalities can a character have?
( e.g. say I wanted my character to have white hair or red eyes or something like that. Something that normally wouldn't be possible without some kind of genetic variant like albinism. )

It's regarding dark talents.
What's the limit to this?
Could the dark talents be something physical? (like, idk, they can grow an extra arm or transform into something else. or like, a vampire or something along those lines. stuff like that). Or is this more along the lines of something more like an emitter-type power? (like being able to control one of the many elements like fire or electricity.)

your character can have whatever abnormalities it wants, as long as its not super overpowering (like super strength, i would consider that a talent/power)

Can I use "Frank Lloyd Wrong" as a name for a student? And have him descended from the Wrong brothers, who used to teach the Flight Class before a landing accident?

He was accidentally accepted at this school because he has myopia and being too proud to use glasses, sucks at cooking and reading cookbooks?

I don't think it's possible for him to accidentally be accepted, as the criteria they look at would be the darkness of their souls when gathering students.
Any who don't meet the criteria are kicked out and have their memory erased

Does he have to be human? Can he be a sentient grayish haze (with a cousin, Deb, who works at Nightvale Community Radio) who only accepted admission to the school because he's on the run from something worse: the American Meteorological Society?

And he's secretly the avatar of an inter-dimensional entity. Who was rejected as a teacher because he couldn't provide any references?

2) I know, right? They've got to be weather witches or seers of some sort. People are far too trusting of them for my comfort--it's got to be some sort of mass hypnosis.

Is this power acceptable: It obscures him and makes it hard for people to perceive him? They can only see him in the corner of their eye, making him look like a human-shaped gray blob/haze (he's human).

Actually, can I just use Blindside's powers?

Blindside's power prevents people from turning their eyes and head in such a way that they would be looking at them.[10] If Blindside moves into their field of vision, they're forced to compulsively look away.[11][12] Blindside claimed that they could force a person to snap their neck in this way.[13] People can still turn to look in Blindside's direction if there are intervening objects preventing them from seeing them.[12] They could also turn their head in Blindside's direction as long as their eyes are closed.[14][13]

People are prevented from touching Blindside with any body part, muscles cramping and locking up before they can make contact, as if they hit an imaginary wall around them.[6][15][9][16][17] People even find themselves freezing when they're about to make contact with weapons. This does not stop objects already in motion from continuing and making contact, however.[18][19][20]

Their power also locks people from pointing at Blindside with fingers,[21][9] weapons,[22][23] master minions[20], cameras,[24] etc.

This power is apparently constantly on and can not be turned off.[25] It would have applied to insects controlled by a Master, preventing them from looking directly at Blindside or aiming their stingers at them.[23][20][26]

but Blindside's powers are pretty cool so you can use those!

Is there any type of student council of the sort at this school? What about clubs?

I feel like it's a position he'd willingly take for the sake of having the freedom to do more in certain situations, but as a regular member, he won't have to do as much but stop the commotion.

i lowkey don't know. I was thinking a time where theres a medieval type thing, but with modern technologies and medicines. So people live in villages ig. idk tho

Hey! I know we've said that unless the character is 12 this won't be their first year at the academy but I was wondering if we could make an exception if we gave an explanation within the backstory e.g the characters mother found the letter and kept hiding the character until now as she didn't want them to attend or something like that, but the character has enough powers/knowledge to immediately begin studying in a higher year group. It's just I would like to experience being new in the academy and getting to know the other students without having to create a backstory relationship with everyone already here (and I also don't want to be 12)

will they have roommates? I was thinking about starting to make dorm rooms for all the approved characters, but i wasn't sure if they were in individual rooms or if they had roommates or something

hmmm...well the selection for the academy is very thorough, so i don't think they would offer a letter to someone who wouldn't want to be in the academy, considering they're all evil. if you want to pm me the history though, i could see. no promises though

hmmm...I would say 2-3? maybe two?

How long do characters have to stay in the entrance topic. Can I just make a post there and then go wherever or do they actually have to like talk to another character?
