Also, a read now is

We read one all together earlier this year (Reckless Girls) by the same author.
I grabbed it.
What was funny is that I didn't think I liked the cover of Reckless Girls, but now that I see her new cover and look at the cover from the wife, I am changing that opinion. Her covers are all similar style and now I love them!
I also got The Villa by Rachel Hawkins. It doesn't publish until January if anyone would like to join me. It is currently read now for the first 1,000.

Vicki - Any thoughts on when you'd like to read The Prisoner or The Villa? The Prisoner doesn't publish until November, so maybe September or October? And The Villa publishes in January. So maybe after The Prisoner, later this year?
This is off topic, but I sent both of those books to my Kindle and neither went through. I tried removing some books from my Kindle to make space and turning it off and on to reboot, nothing. I also tried to resend with no success. They aren't showing up in my Kindle docs on Amazon either. Anyone else having trouble with downloads today? NetGalley was super slow, so I'm wondering if the issue may be on their end. I don't want to resend them too many times, then have 20 of them to delete later.
Edit: They do show up on my NetGalley app as available to download. The change to Kindle format hasn't started yet, has yet? I thought that was July, maybe next week.
Edit: I'm not sure what the issue is, but The Prisoner has finally come through. Maybe The Villa will come through soon too.
Final edit: The Villa finally came through. I think NG is just super slow today.

The Villa hasn't shown up yet, but like you I don't want to send it too many times.
I get all freaked out because I lost a book to archive recently and that was a bummer.

I missed the Read Now so I requested it. 🤞

I have noticed that sometimes it's not instant. But yes, next week it won't be an option anyway.

I'd try again if you haven't gotten it yet. Seems to be working fine now. I saw a few other people complaining about those books not coming through as they should. They probably just had too many people trying to get them at once.

Vicki, did you see my earlier post about buddy reading? Did you want to buddy read those two? Any particular time in mind?

I hope you get The Villa, Tasha. I completely understand having concern about future downloads. I'm guessing that whatever we already have downloaded to our Kindles won't be affected by the change.

Yes! I got lost in the posts!
I like to read about a month out if that works for you. I don't like to read too far from publish because it disrupts the flow of what is publishing right now.
Sept/Oct ish for The Prisoner
Nov/Dec-ish for The Villa
Would work best for me.

Elyse - I have that one too. I am thinking of reading it late Sept or Early Oct. if that works for you?

I am still confused about all this. NG is changing the format that goes to the kindle right?
Our old books will still be there and not be affected.
But the new format will still be able to go to the kindle? Or are you saying the new format will only download onto a phone?

This one looks really good too! Too many books!

Vicki, I think the issue is that they weren't really clear as to what was happening. The problem is the format Kindle supports is changing and we don't know how NetGalley will handle that.
My understanding is that whatever we have downloaded already is fine and will stay on our Kindles, but we don't know this for certain since Kindle won't be supporting the same type of file anymore. It is possible that we won't be able to open the files, but I would hope that's not the case. NetGalley hasn't said how they are planning to handle that. I would guess that they will change the format they offer to make it Kindle friendly, but I don't know that for sure either.
The only information that was sent out was that Kindle will no longer be using the same formatting they have used in the past. I believe it is a switch from the Kindle only mobi files to epub, which all other readers use.

Perfect! I'll add them to the calendar and start threads later today and we can decide on a specific date in those threads or when it gets a little closer.

are there start days that work better for you??

Trisha - We read Sundial back in January. The thread is here: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... I didn't get to finish it, so I recently restarted and am reading it now. Feel free to jump onto that thread anytime to discuss.
JenniferJ - I'm not sure about animal cruelty being on the pages. I'm on page 71 right now and there hasn't been anything on page, but (view spoiler)
I'm not sure how much of a spoiler that is, but just incase someone wants to go in blind. Maybe the others who have finished the book could give you better information as to whether any abuse happens on the page. I can say that it is very strange so far.

yeah, I'm good with waiting until September for The Island!
Did we want to start The Club mid month? 15th? Does that work for you too Gem??
Tasha wrote: "Yes, there was some animal stuff in Sundial that will make some pretty uncomfortable."
Thanks, Tasha.
Thanks, Tasha.

We've settled on start dates for Mad Honey (Sept 5) and The Prisoner (Sept 20). I'll edit the above post.
I'm hoping to also join for The Family Game. I'm hoping to get the audio of this one, but it isn't offered yet. I might join for The Island too, though I may be late for that one. I'm waiting on a library hold.
