No I hadn't planned to but if there is one going on, I'll join! It wasn't originally on my reading plan for this month but I had a hard time finding a book with glasses in it for some reason.

message 105: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I don't know if there is or not. She may be reading it for a challenge as well. Just seemed a funny coincidence. I read the first one awhile ago and liked it. And yeah, I was worried about being able to find glasses.

Sorry was working off my tablet using the Goodreads App which isn't very user friendly!

Thank you we are getting there.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Good evening, Lemon Drops! Hope everyone is staying warm and safe. I dodged the ice storm in Shreveport yesterday as I left in the afternoon. But it's pretty chilly down here, so I will be snuggling on the couch and finishing my book. How is everyone else doing?

I didn't really enjoy this book. None of the characters were likable and the motives behind the murders were not strong enough to justify the measures taken.

Jade aka MrsTosh (mrstosh) | 709 comments Week 2 - An Offer You Can't Refuse by Jill Mansell Finished 24/02 ***

This book has been on my TBR list for ages. Not a book that is going to change my life by having read it, but it wasn't a bad to book to make up my challenge count.

Lola accepts an offer to help a her Stepfather pay off his gambling debts and loses the love of her life int he bargain, after making a deal with the devil (his Mum). Years later the pair meet up and Lola try to rebuild her relationship with Doug.

The book was quite humorous in place and all the characters are easy to like. There is a lot going on in the book all at once and a lot of different sort lines that come together but have nothing to do with the plot...I found myself thinking a couple of time, something happen already!

WOW: Glasses ~ Loc 627 ‘You should be wearing granny glasses and a fuzzy cardigan
BOW: Wolf ~ Loc 597 louder still, ‘Ga-aaaaaabe,’ like a lone wolf howling in the forest.

Neighbor ~ Loc 60 I’m Lola Malone, your new neighbour!
Building ~ Loc 189 Gabe reached the side of the whitewashed building
Yellow ~ Loc 263 She dumped a copy of the Yellow Pages in front of Gabe.

Bonus: Wolf
Unbinding (World of the Lupi, #11) by Eileen Wilks
2/24/15 4.5★

Review:
I wasn't sure what to think about this one when I first started reading it. It's been long enough ago that I finished the last one that I couldn't really remember these two people who are central to the story. Where were Rule and Lily!!?? Off on their honeymoon and only accessible by phone. But as the story progressed, I began to love it as well as Nathan and Kai. So much happens in this one and yet the author keeps firm hold of the reins and the climax of the story is exactly as it needs to be. Great stuff!!

Glasses "she'd traded her glasses for extended wear contacts" Loc 1023
Wolf "like a new wolf" Loc 548

Neighbor "her neighbors didn't know much about her" Loc 1335
Building"the dragon has parked himself on the roof of the building" Loc 954
Yellow "white shirt with a yellow cartoon Loc 793

Mr. Penumbra's 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan by Robin Sloan
Read: 24 Feb 2015
Rating: 3*

I kept wavering between really liking this book and really not liking it. Yes, it was quirky. Yes it was an interesting look at the intersection between traditional books (or OK - Old Knowledge) and technology. But I just found the characters irritating. I think the intention was for them to be funny, but I found them all just that bit too self-absorbed. Perhaps that was just me though. So I didn't hate it, but it isn't a book I would necessarily return to in a hurry. And I am rather glad I read it now and didn't wait 5 years because anyone who picks it up in 2020 is going to think "oh my god, that technology is so old! I can't believe they thought that way!"

glasses: "...big intimidating eyes behind thick black glasses." p.245
wolf: "...a thief, a wolf, a talking chair." p.264

neighbor: "...I almost make its neighbor, PRYOR, pop out and drop to the floor..." p. 72
store: "...in tall, golden letters, it said (in reverse) MR PENUMBRA'S 24 HOUR BOOKSTORE." p.8
yellow: "...flashes of branding: red, green, yellow and blue." p.82

Danielle Book Boss (daniellebookboss) | 434 comments Phantom Shadows (Immortal Guardians, #3) by Dianne Duvall
Read: 2/26
Rating: 3 stars

WOW: Glasses - "Though his blond hair was windblown, he still looked like an accountant as he reached up and adjusted his glasses" p.39

BOW: Wolf - "Bastien watched Melanie wolf down the pot pie..." p.179

Additional words

Neighbor - "The tunnel was a long one that led up to the basement of a single story home with no neighbors and no outward connection to the larger building" p.291

Building - "...dropping three stories to land with only a hint of sound on the sidewalk in front of the building" p.2

Yellow - "She flipped the yellow cap open." p.368

This is my third jaunt into the world of eco friendly vegan immortal warriors. Like seriously, they are all big fighting warriors who drive priuses and volts and eat only organic food and have solar panels on their homes. It's hilarious except it's not because the author is serious. And I'll be honest I'm being snarky as hell but I can no longer take them seriously. Reading this it sometimes feels like that lifestyle is being shoved down my throat. I had the same reaction to the first two books.

At first in reading this, I didn't appreciate - as with the two prior books - that the heroes were so overprotective of the heroines that they treated them like children more or less. But as I continued the story I realized that Melanie like the other heroines, had some TSTL moments and actually should have been treated like that. I didn't find it plausible that she is this researcher/doctor whatever but still does all this martial arts AND is combat ready. I mean okay I can do with being able to kick butt but ready to just jump in there after NEVER having been in a combat position - I mean we are talking about throwing knives and taking hits - the whole nine. It just wasn't believable. Overall the story was okay. I'll read the next one but only because I've already bought it.

It has grass and green
It has all of the people - although rather than child it has children (hopefully that's OK?)
It has building, which I didn't claim last week so I am happy to claim it this week to get the point.
It has all of the things except candle, paint and umbrella

Yeah Leslie I keep getting great set ups for stories with this series but they are falling flat. It had one of my favorite tropes too which is the redeemed villain. I do have to say I like how snarky Bastian is but other than that I found myself really annoyed half the time.
