Today was a snow day, so I'm already through chapter 4! I'm reminded of Zora Neale Hurston.
Just picked up the book today. And then joined the group so that I can read it with you.
I started this morning. 50 pages in and I *love* the writing!
The newest issue of O magazine features Oprah's interview with the author Deborah Bond and an excerpt from Ruby. It's a real "steak and potatoes" kinda read....I can't wait to get my hands on it!
I am a facilitator for a book club and although we are not reading it with you, I did select it as our book for May. Can't wait to read it.
I do have it but not sure if I'll manage the group read. Not too well.
I'm about 18% into it and wondering what happened to Ruby. Waiting for discussions to begin.

I'm about 30% in now. It's excellent. I sometimes am reminded a bit of Toni Morrison's "Beloved", which is good, because I loved that book.

I finished the book last nite and still can't stop thinking about it. Wow, wow, wow!
It's intense and well written. I'm half way through it.
I just started this past weekend. I love the descriptive language and the intensity of all of the characters so far.
Finished the book last night. It was really intense and good. It's kind of haunting.
I'm listening to the audiobook of it. It is read by the author. She does a fantastic job - I am about 5 & 1/2 hours into it and am really enjoying it. Very descriptive, intense, and a little sad about what poor ruby has gone through.
I just got it and hope to get to it in a couple of weeks .
Hello....new to the club and am excited! Just finished the book 20 minutes ago, and can i say WOW. This author is phenomenal. Her descriptive, metaphorical use of the characters and settings are beyond descriptive. I finished the book in two days. It is not for the faint at heart, and at times, had to put the book down and digest what I was reading. Kudos to Cynthia Bond. I'm anxiously awaiting.......
Ruby has been bumped on my TBR list to the next one. I should be starting it in another week.
Finished it this morning!!! This book is haunting. Listening to the audiobook was hard at times because of how disturbing some of the content is. What happens to the small children in Liberty really stays with you. It is incredibly descriptive and I was able to picture myself right there next to the characters. The author did a phenomenal job, however, it is not for the faint of heart!!

Hi all!! This is Regina from NY. I'm on Chap 20 and it has been hard to tear myself away!! This book has made me angry and sad mostly with a little bit of happy sprinkled in.....although I don't have a good feeling about the ending!

Just got the book. Can't wait to read it.
Finished quite a while back. Forgot to say - loved it! Amazing book. It stirred so many emotions, memories, desires, fears, joys! It is painful, painful, painful with a flicker of hope.
Hello, I'm Elisa from Brussels (Belgium). I've finished reading "Ruby" recently. Beautifully written but such a devastating story!
I just started yesterday, so far I'm liking it. The flow is smooth and the way she writes is quite poetic. More poetic than my style but it's growing on me.
I finished Ruby last week. Wow!!! Looking forward to discussion. Looking for another great read. Can't stop thinking about Ruby! This author is up there with Toni Morrison and Maya Angelou. Impressive.
@Felicia. I so agree. Wow!!! I know the story line is not for everyone, but Ruby reeled me in from the first sentence and hasn't let me go -- so much so that I'm reading it again. I think I felt somewhat like Ephram, when he said to Ruby, "If you're brave enough to live it, the least I can do is listen."I was surprised at how many details I missed in the first reading. But now with the knowledge of the story line, the second reading is allowing me to go deeper into each character and their individual story.
I'm hooked, line and sinker.
For those who begin and are uncomfortable with the darkness of its storyline, I'd encourage you to give it a chance. It's a page turner and one that left me wanting for more...
Couldn't put it down....finished in two days.
I just finished the book...great read but I could not stop myself from crying..plus I needed more at the end.......what happened, did they ever get together?
I saw Ms Bond's interview with Oprah and I believe there's a second book, a continuation of their lives
Brenda, I cried & raged & cried! Wanted to know what was next, too, so I'm hoping Janice is right about another book!
