Kim Idol | 3 comments I have a book just out. A murder mystery called The Sky Above by Kim Idol. I would love for you to review it. It is on Amazon as a Kindle and a paperback. If you want a free copy. Let me know but it is 2.99 Kindle and 8.99 Paperback. This was the cheapest I could list them and still cover print costs. If you look me up here or in Amazon I have a synopsis as well. It is a crime novel set in Los Angeles circa 1990. Kim

Hi Anna, how are you? Are you looking for reviewers for your book? If so, I'd love to read and review it in exchange for a physical copy, as I don't really have a good way to read ebooks. My review would be published on Goodreads and my book blog. I can also be reached by email at: [email protected]

Patrick Jefferys | 10 comments Tammy wrote: "Oh just email me at [email protected] with your blurb and we'll go from there."

Pat Jefferys:

Title: Jurors What Say Ye

Blurb: Pat Jefferys, Senior Counsel, having received his Letters Patent from the State President, and a practicing advocate for many years, is remarkably well qualified to present this discourse.

His journey to faith was one of fact-finding; a typical lawyer digging out evidence and weighing it in the custom of the legal profession. Amongst other things, it was a humbling journey as he was moved by his research to wrestle with his preconceived ideas, ideals and beliefs in the face of accumulative new evidence.

In this work, Pat invites you to assume the part of a juror in the case for Christianity. He draws you in, to sit as a dispassionate adjudicator of fact and evidence. The challenge is not merely for the believer and seeker, but also the honest atheist, agnostic and followers of other religions and philosophies, therein also laying a substantive challenge to embrace or evade.

The book is a thorough and a fascinating resource that tackles questions about faith and Christianity through an analytical lens that uses facts, archaeology, science, philosophy, and the Bible to delve deeper into life, faith, and the universe, yet written in an easy conversational style which will take you on a journey through the birth of the universe, reliability of scripture, prophecies, accuracy, and truth. The book also delves into weightier topics and world views, with relevance to morality, and in-depth information that allows you to think deeper about Christianity and faith with the goal of providing answers to your doubts and scepticism.
The tone is educational and conversational which allows Jefferys to explain facts and theories with ease, thereby drawing the reader into what is a difficult subject these days. It provides fascinating information, of which most of us are unaware, and invites the reader to accept or reject the material provided.
A respectful work which will not only fascinate the reader but will leave the reader craving for more. It is available on Amazon Books as an e-book or paperback.
Will your judgement support or oppose the legal determination of “beyond reasonable doubt”?

Clive Warner | 10 comments This is just a heads-up from me. I love reviewing but I do sometimes get a sour taste in my mouth. It's my policy not to review books that have poor grammar or use of English. I need to be able to award at least 3 stars or I decline to review, I don't want to leave negative reviews. I am an honest reviewer. If a reviewer declines to review your book, please listen to the given reason and reflect, before you send nasty messages to the reviewer. it has not been unusual for me to decline (with reasons given), receive abuse via email, and then later the author, having got one and two star reviews, often gets in contact to apologise and say, now they understand what I meant. But then it's too late, the faulty novel is there and so are the bad reviews.
So, please understand we reviewers are often editors too, and professionals, we offer reviews for no payment, we give our time free. If you do get declined, think about it, get other opinions, try it out on Critique Circle before you badmouth the reviewer.

It's always interesting to hear different reviewers' perspectives, Mr. Clive. As a writer and former librarian, however, I've long since come to the conclusion that there's no such thing as a perfectly edited book, especially when it comes to fiction. I even had publishers of my books tell me the same thing.

What may be considered perfect use of English or grammar may not fit, for example, a character's speech or an author's attempt to differentiate one voice from another. Then, there are varying opinions on punctuation usage like the colon: For example, I've been dinged for using a capital (as here) after a colon when either a capital or lower case is acceptable. I've been cited for using italics, slang (which, of course, won't exhibit proper grammar), and what sometimes appear to be syntax lapses. That's not to say that I don't have legitimate errors; I have them. But, it's hard not to find authors (pro or amateur) who don't. If I start looking for them and keeping track, it then becomes counterproductive. That is, I'm less interested in the actual story and characters themselves: How do they make me feel? Are they giving me my money's worth, despite grammatical and syntax "errors?"

In the end, when I review particularly fiction, I'm more interested in how compelling and well-told a story is, rather than on how well it's edited for grammar and syntax. Usually, I think most stories can be told in about 250 pages or less, but seem to have to meet certain publishing formats or, if the author is famous enough, their standards. So I guess, as a writer, I'm more interested in reviewing characterization, plotting, length, and entertainment value.

So if I focused more on how tightly edited a tale is, then I'd have to give some of the all-time literary touchstones 1 or 2 stars (e.g., Joseph Conrad's "The Heart of Darkness," a few of Raymond Chandler's later Phillip Marlowe mysteries, and even The King James Bible). But, all three examples are so influential and well-told that they rise well above whatever grammatical or syntax errors may be present or interpreted to be present.

Just a thought: It would be interesting to know whether authors as reviewers are as laser-locked on grammar and syntax or if they're on the lookout for lax characterization and plot.

I would absolutely love it if you could spare the time to read and review my books. It would mean the world to me if you’re able to.

I only have two books at the moment:

They’re a Paranormal/Urban Fantasy/Romance novel.
It’s not easy starting off as newbie writers, that’s one thing for sure. haha
If you got the chance to spare some time reading my books I thank you in advance.

I’ll just drop my Amazon links to them here as well for you (they're both for free on Kindle Unlimited):

Hey Bridget,

I saw your email and blog info but since I only have a draft and am moving through a rewrite, I don't think sending you things directly will be worth your time.

I'm posting the content during my rewrite but it will likely still have some thorny edges. If you get through everyone else's material and looking for something to do, you're welcome to peruse the content that I have uploaded at that time.
