Phillip Black (goodreadscomphillip_black) | 209 comments Tender is the Flesh...wow, this one really is a tough one. I see what's behind the story and it is damn well written but reading it makes me literally sick. I can't remember any book causing this reaction in me, only the movies Cannibal Holocaust and the D-Day segment of Saving Private Ryan did so before. But this reaction is of course wanted by the author and it is a strong book...only maybe not one I can read again (at least not soon).

Phillip Black (goodreadscomphillip_black) | 209 comments This sure is no Halloween read ;) I wouldn't call it a horror novel in the sense of spooky and creepy but a raw dystopian story which does not shy away from horrific acts and details. Not one to lighten the mood, that's for sure!

message 156: by Hank (new)

Hank Helstrom Just starting this whopper. It's gonna take some dedication, but the strength of the reviews behind it leaves me optimistic.

Betty

Damini | 132 comments Finally got around to reading "The Last House on Needless Street" and...oh boy. I was so sure I'd figured it out, then the book did a drop kick right on my chest.

Stefan Tanović | 8 comments I am currently listening "The Final Girl Support Group" by Grady Hendrix on Audible and I realy suggest it to everyone who likes audiobooks because the narrator is just amazing. Not just her voice but all this dramatisation it is fantastic experience.
I am also currently reading "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" by R. L. Stevenson.

Luke Piranesi by Susanna Clarke. For such a short book, it’s taking forever to get going

Yeah but I'm pretty sure if aliens visited tomorrow and saw what people do to animals they would turn right back around. I want to read it but I'm waiting for the "right moment" lol.

I bought it because I loved the cover, but glad to hear the guts of the book are just as awesome!

I've got Tender is the Flesh on my TBR list, I'm going into it expecting it to be very dark. Honestly, I'm not expecting anyone to survive, either physically or mentally, by the end of it.

Daniel Gessel (danielmgessel) Tender is the Flesh might be too much for me. The dementia thread alone might be triggering and then the cannibalism… Bizarrely, mindless zombies are okay, but people - for some reason it crosses some innate boundary into something like depravity. Challenging myself is a good thing, but I have to pick the battles.

Ohhh, thanks for mentioning the dementia portion of that book. I just lost my mom, (not to dementia but she had it), and I don't think I can deal with that right now.

It's a reread for a CR group read. It's been a long time so I'd forgotten how quickly he gets down to business.

I am currently (re-)reading the works of Alexander Dugin. Perhaps reading might help to explain what the fuck Putin is trying to achieve in Ukraine.
