Support for Indie Authors discussion

I'm currently hoping to publish my first fantasy novel within the month, and I was wondering which POD source you published authors have used. Which ones did you prefer or dislike? As I'm under a tight deadline to begin with, I'm thinking of starting with CreateSpace and later adding Ingram, but I'm curious to see what you think from your experiences.

I just published with Createspace and had a great experience. I definitely recommend them.

Thank you! I think I'm going to begin with CreateSpace. Countdown for my Princess Jelly Bean's due date is less than 5 weeks now, so I don't really have the time to do much more work than what I absolutely have to. I figure if I really feel the need I can also do Ingram in the future. I just know that if I don't get this published somehow before Baby Girl's birth, it's probably not going to happen for months and months. I want to do it well, but I also want it to actually happen. Lol.

I published through CreateSpace, too, and had a wonderful experience with them. No problems whatsoever. The one drawback has already been mentioned-no hardback copies. Other than that, it's a simple yet very effective process.

I published via createaspace and loved them, but a very important thing to keep in mind- they print on demand and do not have a refund policy. This has been a deterrant for many retail bookstores carrying my book. Just an fyi, other than that they were great!

I used CreateSpace and found they were very good. I would say though, your front cover will be printed very dark so make sure you increase the contrast/brightness for that. And re: book store having issues, Waterstones seem to have had no problems with my book being printed through CS.

Can only vouch for Createspace. Used cream pages and matte finish and proof arrived day earlier than promised. Print color wee bit darker than on bright screen. Think this may be more noticeable in gloss.

If self-formatting, JOEL FRIEDLANDER The Book Designer, (or find him in Createspace's guides) is great source for old school such as no running heads or page numbers on chapter starts etc. I'd given no thought to hyphening line ends until I read him.

I used CreateSpace and am very happy with them. Easy to use and great customer service. I used their cover creator but uploaded my own photo. As Paddy did, I used cream pages and matte finish, and my proof was earlier than expected. Also, thank you Paddy for mentioning the resource for self-formatting. That was my biggest challenge.
