Karly | 342 comments Hello! Really needed an easy, breezy book set for December so I decided to do mostly Mary and Carol Higgins Clark books that were already on my shelf. Felt good as a mental break and also good to get tbr’s off the shelf that have been there for decades.

Stillwatch - Mary Higgins Clark. 3 stars

Fleeced - Carol Higgins Clark. 2 stars

The Field Guide to Dumb Birds of the Whole Stupid World - Matt Kracht. 4 stars

The Demon-Haunted World - Carl Sagan. 1 star. Audio assistance on this. Honestly, this felt like he wanted to just zap all the magic out of life in this book.

Wild Apples - Henry David Thoreau. 2 stars.

The Lottery Winner - Mary Higgins Clark. 3 stars.

Popped - Carol Higgins Clark. 2 stars. She has the most ridiculous premises for her books, I think she comes up with titles and then makes stories around them. She’s not the best writer either. But this is like watching bad tv, sometimes you just need it.

Happy 2022 everyone!

Ann (annrumsey) | 16939 comments Glad you got some books off your tbr Karly, Happy New Year!
Two and three star reads if they were easy and breezy are ok as long as you have the "Dumb birds" four star read. Lol
I am afraid some books I've had for decades will share the same ranking fate if I get around to them.

Read Stillwatch many years ago and gave it high marks at the time. Has been years since I last read a MHC book and don't think they'd have the same appeal now.

Karly | 342 comments MHC books were one of my gateways into reading, so they always have a special place in my heart. They definitely hit a little differently now. But something about them is comforting still, and always a nice quick read. Even if the star rankings are low!

MHC was my gateway to crime thrillers. I think I read everything she wrote during one decade.

Carol/Bonadie (bonadie) | 9496 comments Interesting approach Karly! I wandered across some romance novels that served the same purpose for me in the last couple of months.
