Review: After a somewhat disappointing string of PNR reads lately, this was a refreshing and enjoyable one. I really took to the demons and slayers world, and especially the ways in which the characters could shift and mask their true natures. It's a lot of information to take in, and I'm sure I missed some points here and there, but I followed most of the action and am interested to see where the story goes from here. Who is the mystery baddie? Will Eidolon ever stop going to the vampires for Wraith? Will Gem get a happy ending? I loved the characters so much! And it was way sexier than I had anticipated, which was a nice surprise. :)

Review: Have you ever read a book that you really wanted to love but just didn't? That was this book for me. I've been kind of agonizing over what I wanted to say about this book because it has taken me days to figure out exactly why I didn't care for it. It still isn't exactly clear other than this book felt sooooo very long. At many times I felt Butcher could have ended the book so much sooner. Harry went up the big bad evil nightmare so many times...was that really necessary? He kept having run ins with his Godmother Lea...wouldn't once in a book been enough just to remind us that Harry made a bargain with her? There were so many "A-ha!" moments where Harry figured something pivotal out yet it didn't help him solve the case earlier and for the life of me I couldn't track his logic on most of them. I think overall my big issue was that there was so much going on it overwhelmed the book. A vengeful ghost/demon thingie. A vindictive Fae Queen. A Vampire ruler and her minion. All of which wanted to take a piece of Harry.
However, there were parts of the book I truly enjoyed. James Marsters' narration. He totally performed this book rather than just read it. When a character sighed he actually sighed. His narration garnered an extra 1/2 star. Bob! I love Bob. His sarcastic input cracked me up. Butcher utilized a line from one of my favorite movies, The Princess Bride (Have fun storming the castle!). I am kind of intrigued by Thomas. A vampire who helped Harry...sort of. It's still undetermined as to which side he's on in my eyes.
Anyway, I'm torn on if I should continue this series despite so many of my bookie friends loving it. So far the second book has been my favorite and the other 2 just kind of *meh.

However, book #4 is great and the series really got going for me at this point, so if you're willing to take a chance, I think its well worth it in the end.

That's another series that only grabbed me from book #3 onwards, lol! Its a good thingI try to give series at least 3 books to grab me :0)

Shadow Game
Finished: 3/14/15
Rating: 3 stars
Review: This was between 2 and 3 stars for me. I loved the concept, but the slow pace and lack of mystery wasn't all that engaging. It felt like not a lot actually happened. I also felt no connection between Lily and Miller so I found myself skimming over their love scenes. I never give up on a series after the first book, though, so I'm sure I'll get to the next one eventually.

Chased by Moonlight by Nancy Gideon
Finished: March 15th, 2015
Rating: 3.5 Stars
Review: Enjoyed the story despite my problems with the heroine and her running hot/cold with the hero. The overall story arc is getting interesting with more details on Max's past, which may have far reaching consequences on his future. Will read the next one.

Good Job!! :D

No Good Duke Goes Unpunished by Sarah MacLean
Finished: 3/16/15
Rating: 3 stars
Review: For the first time, MacLean misfired for me. I could not get into either Temple or Mara. Temple didn't have nearly the same harsh circumstances as our previous heroes. I could never truly feel bad for his situation. He was outcast, yes, but also still a duke! As is mentioned later in the book - dukes are forgiven pretty much anything, so I didn't buy his fake sob story.
And Mara. What a piece of work. Her story never made any sense, her actions pretty unforgivable, and the whole orphanage seemed concocted to make her seem slightly less selfish. I am more than ready to wash my hands of this couple and move onto the last book - especially with that twist at the end.

My review probably sounded more harsh than I meant it - it's more my disappointment in that I've LOVED all of her other books. But I agree with you! My favorite, by far, is Nine Rules. And this book did also have a cute little reference to the house from Ten Ways to Be Adored. I love it when authors crossover their stories like that.
It's still a good book, I just didn't like these characters as much.
I started

I also can't wait to be caught up on my Bingo books finally! :)

So, this week's shelf is Shifter. I have several possibilities. We'll see what calls me after I get my Green book done and my PNR one completed.

No worries, Christina. Its early days yet and even if teams get 4 in a row they might not be luck for the next shelf calls. Anything can happen as you say.

The Restorer by Amanda Stevens
Finished: 3/18/15
Rating: 5 stars
Review: Wow! This might be my new favorite series! I had never heard of it until maybe 6 months ago when I saw people buddy reading it on Goodreads. Hooray for Goodreads!
I adored Amelia and her battle to deal with her ability. I loved the rules set up from the beginning, and the ways she subtly breaks them to get closer to Devlin. I was completely sucked into the mystery - not only the plot around the bodies showing up in the cemetery, but the history for all of these vivid characters. They all have ghosts, to some degree, whether real or not.
There were juicy tidbits revealed toward the end that I'm not sure I totally processed. I'm eager to keep reading this series to not lose my knowledge/momentum. Loved!
