Logan (loganturner) | 585 comments We need "red" for the next shelf call. I think it's still a nonwinning shelf, and would give us 4 in a row finally! Then vampires next and we'd be in it to win it! :)

Thanks Sandra, I didn't hate it but it was hard to jump on the Chess train. I'm character driven but have found that I don't have to like the characters to enjoy the book but Chess's issues were even beyond me. I bought the first 3 books in the series so we'll see how I'm enjoying them after the 3rd one.

The Luxe (Luxe, #1) by Anna Godbersen by Anna Godbersen

Finished: 5/3/15
Rating: 4 stars
Review: I really liked the narrative style of this book. The prologue nicely set us up to see where things would end up, then we backed up in time to see how they got there. Each chapter started with a snippet from a newspaper or diary or letter to let us know the POV and what action was coming. I thought it worked really well for the historical setting.

The characters were not always easy to like. I wish I had understood our main heroine, Elizabeth, better. I didn't feel like she was always consistent and her relationships with her sister and best friends felt hollow. Penelope and Lina were nice little villains but I wish they had something more interesting to do. I never quite knew who to root for. That said, I still found the plot entertaining and the characters intriguing.

Lauren (laurenjberman) Shelf #12: Witches

This is the winning shelf for teams 4 and 9. Random.org was not with us this round but I've had fun reading.

Christina T (crysteena73) | 180 comments Wow we never even got 4 in a row. Even with the "Witches" shelf we wouldn't have 4 in a row LOL. I agree, Lauren, you are an excellent captain.

Just for the record I'm almost done with my Creature Feature book LOL.

Sandra | 25910 comments Please post it when you've finished it Christina :)

I'll add it to the stats. Plus pretty sure you'll get another stamp.

Sandra | 25910 comments My team, #8, didn't get a 4 in a row either. No chance at winning this round :(

Eternal Kiss of Darkness (Night Huntress World, #2) by Jeaniene Frost
Finished: 5/06/15
Rating: ★★★1/2
Review: I had a hard time really getting into this book and an even harder time liking it. While Kira is a strong female lead Mencheres spends most of the book whining about his lack of visions and even more time complaining about how bored he is of living. I really expected more from a 4000+ vampire. After reading many of the Night Huntress books and the previous Night Huntress World book and Vlad's first 2 books I really adored Mencheres. Well not any more. He is outta my harem! Oh and I listened to this book on audio and OMG what a horrible voice for Bones! I'm so glad I actually read every other book because I'd have to kick Bones outta my harem too after listening to his rather unsexy Cockney accent the narrator provided.
The saving grace for this book was Kira, Gorgan, and Vlad and it was interesting to see more of vampire politics even though it seems the guardians are judge and jury with no one policing them.

Sandra | 25910 comments No worries Christina, I'll add it to the stats.

Sandra | 25910 comments OK, all updated Christina. Sadly Logan hasn't read her Creature Feature book, so your team doesn't get another stamp.

message 270: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25910 comments Well, Nici, if anyone wants to add their books, I'll add them to the Stats or Steph will stamp them if appropriate. You've got till when the next shelf would've been called, ie 1pm Cali time Wednesday :)
