Raina looked around as the passengers from the boat unloaded. She looked at each passenger. Would any of them be a Lifer?

Derrick stepped off the boat. He was all alone, no family with him or anything. He shifted his backpack to the other shoulder. He looked around.

Raina caught sight of a guy. Sh slowly walks over to him. He seemed lost. She stops in front of him "Hi I'm Raina I live here. Would you like me to show you around?"

Derrick stopped. "Nice to meet you, Raina. I'm Derrick. I would love it if you could please show me around." He spoke quietly, glancing around.

Wonderful. "Great why don't we drop your things off at your place?" She fiddled with hr hair. A habit she never got out of. She looked Derrick over. He was fairly cute.

"Okay." Derrick grabbed his backpack and pulled a piece of paper out of one pocket. He unfolded it and showed it to her. "This is where I'm staying."

She blinked acouple of times. He had to be In the apartment across from her own. "Hey that's right across from mine! It's not that far. Nice to meet you by the way."

"Nice to meet you too. Thank you for being willing to show me around." Derrick smiled slightly at her.

"No problem, you looked a little lost so, I thought I would come over and help you. " They crossed the street. "So what brought you to Juniper Landing?"

"Umm, just needing some place to escape." Derrick shrugged and looked down.

Raina wanted to know the backstory of this guy but she knew all she had to was wait. Strangely she didn't want to think of him leaving. They reached the door to his apartment. "This is it! Oh an jut so you know if you nee anything later right there." She pointed to the door across the hall.

"Okay." Derrick pushed open the door and stepped inside. It was a simple one bedroom apartment.

She waited for him in the doorway. When h returned she walked beside him down the stairs.

Derrick set his backpack down and closed the door. He followed Raina down the stairs back to the street.

"So what's your story? I would like to get to know you." They stop I front of the general store "this Id the General Store by the way."

"Story? Like how I ended up coming here?" Derrick asked wanting to make sure he understood. He nodded, looking at the store.

"Not necessarily, more like your childhood your favorites," not like if understand half of what your saying she thought. "Hey there's ice cream in here, want one? I'll buy,"

"Sure." Derrick walked with her inside the general store. He wasn't sure what childhood memories he could share, it wasn't like he had many good ones.

She looked at him "what kind would you like?" She rubbed her leather bracelet back and forth on her wrist.

"Hmm, vanilla." He decided. Derrick noticed the leather bracelet on her wrist and smiled. It looked old and worn like she had had it for a long time.

She got the ice cream and they sat at a table. Raina looked at the cookies and cream cone she got. She picked at it. She pulled her bag off her shoulders. A nearby chair had bumped into it and her things came flying out. Including he sketchbook.

Derrick bent and helped her pick up all of her stuff. He grabbed her sketchbook which had opened to a half completed picture. He smiled, looking at the picture before closing the book.

She blushed when Derrick handed them back to her. She saw the picture he was looking at. An angel getting ready to take off. At least he didn't she the creepy ones then he might not talk to hr again. Why did that matter? He would be gone I days anyway. "Thanks, I-uh" for once she stumbled over her words.

"No problem." Derrick smiled, listening to her stumble over her words. "You are an amazing artist." He told her before taking a bite of his ice cream.

She pulled a stray hair behind her ear. She blushes harder. "Thanks," she couldn't meet his gaze.

Derrick smiled. He kept eating his ice cream. He looked around the general store.

"You-um you like it so far?" He finally gained composure over herself.

"Yeah, I guess. Only got here a little bit ago." Derrick shrugged.

"I know I was there" she finished her ice cream and threw the wrapper away.

Derrick smiled. He finished eating his ice cream. He wadded up the wrapper and threw it away.

She showed him th rest of town and they slowly headed back to the apartment. She thought of something "hey want to come to the big bi ire tonight? It's really fun and it's a good way to get to know the town,"

"Sure. What time?" Derrick asked her.

"About eight thirtyish if you want I can grab you before I leave I can,"

"Okay. Thanks." Derrick stood outside the door to his apartment.

"Well I'll see you," she opened her door and closed it behind her. For some reason she likes Derrick. She waited around for 8:30 and wa nervous. Would Derrick think? She finnally knocked I his door.

Derrick opened the door and came out. He was wearing a plain black t- shirt and jeans.

"You ready?" She pulled a leather jacket over her tank top and jeans. She looked into his blue eyes.

"Yeah." Derrick closed the door behind him.
