Just wanted to get our team thread started. We will need a team name, some one to keep us organized, and a scorekeeper. Any takers and/or ideas? I can keep our team organized and plug in books (who is reading for what task) if everyone is ok with that.

Team Name idea: Three for the Road (that's all I got) any other ideas?

Jayme | 4527 comments Not sure if everyone wants to strategize and read to knock out sites, or just read for tasks - thoughts?

message 3: by Casceil (new)

Casceil | 2728 comments I think it would make sense to focus on one site. I vote for London.

I agree it makes sense to start focusing on one site and then move on to another one as we complete. Maybe everyone should start gophering to see what books they have to fill tasks and then we can see what sites we can knock out first for the bonus points. I think we should be able to complete several sites and read at least one book in each site for the circuit bonus.
If we want to start with London I can read task/fact 2 and 8 for sure - waiting on an answer from Kristie for task 9.

Jayme | 4527 comments I created a Planning thread and linked it to the top of our team thread for easy access. Once we know what books we are planning on reading we can start slating in our possible reads.

I can read 4 books for sure and probably more (depending on the length, but just want to commit to 4 for now because I know 2 of my days toppler week are a bust.

I hope people don't mind that I've been working on our team stuff. Henry is working this weekend and I have some free time :)

message 7: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Feb 06, 2022 09:17AM) (new)

Jayme | 4527 comments After looking at my bookshelves and weeding out lengthy books it looks like I can read across the circuit if need be, or focus on Chicago, New York, or London. I'll wait to start plugging in my books in the planning thread until more team members start posting their possible book choices. I was really surprised that I didn't have any books for the city locations. Happy gophering everyone!!!

Chicago 1, 7, 8
New York 1, 4, 9, 10
Boston 5, 10
London 2, 8 (I have several books that take place in England, but want to wait if someone has a London book)
Berlin 5
Tokyo 7

one of the books listed fits both New York 1 and Boston 10

The details for each book that I can read can be found on this thread Toppler Book Possibilities text

message 8: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Feb 06, 2022 10:13AM) (new)

Jayme | 4527 comments I plugged myself into reading Chicago 1 and 7, New York 10 and London 2. I will probably be able to squeeze in 1 or 2 more books, but I'll see how the toppler week goes and what we still need to complete. ;)

These aren't in stone and I can switch things up as more people come on board.

Jayme | 4527 comments Hi Team!
I created a spreadsheet for scoring (see below) and have also linked it to our team 3 message 1.
All we need to do now is plan our toppler. :)

Amanda | 1796 comments Thanks for all your work so far, Jayme! I like "Three for the Road" as a team name.

I can read Murder in the Paperback Parlor for London, 10 if that's where we want to focus.

Hi Amanda - I've got you down for London 10. I think we can also plug in books where ever they can fit since we have to read a book from each city to get the extra circuit bonus :)

Yes I can.

I'm happy with Three for the Road as a name

I've looked at my books and the London categories and I can do the following:

Year of the Witching~ Read a book with a forest on the cover. Multiple trees must be shown
We'd probably have to ask Kristie for a ruling on this one maybe?
The Year of the Witching (Bethel, #1) by Alexis Henderson

All The Lonely People ~ Read a book with an umbrella on the cover.

Shuggie Bain ~ Read a book set in one of the Celtic nations: Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Cornwall, Isle of Man, or Brittany.

Flea Market Magic ~ Read a book that is part of a series with 6 or more main works

I can probably to 5 min books (maybe more). Let me know if you want me to use any of the above, and then I'll look to plug in whatever site we choose next.

message 15: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Oh hang on, I totally forgot that the location gives you more points!

All The Lonely People is set in London.

Shuggie Bain is set in Scotland - which is needed for the prompt so not sure if that gives you the location bonus or not???

Jayme | 4527 comments Lynn wrote: "Oh hang on, I totally forgot that the location gives you more points!

I'll plug you in for All the Lonely people London (loc), and Shuggie Bain for 7
Amanda is already reading a book for London 10. (series of 6)
Ask Kristie for a ruling on Year of the Witching and if it's a go, I'll plug it in for #4 London - forest

message 17: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Feb 06, 2022 06:33PM) (new)

Jayme | 4527 comments I'm going to switch one of my reads around to fill London #8. and I just found a short one for London #1 that I can squeeze in.

message 18: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Feb 06, 2022 07:22PM) (new)

Jayme | 4527 comments We are half way to completing London. We still need to find books for

#3 - 'right" or "hand" in title
#5 - set in museum or MC works in one
#6 - statue on cover
#9 - map in book

message 19: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Jayme wrote: "We are half way to completing London. We still need to find books for

Bear in mind though that this is not an England setting, so anyone feel free to find a better alternative even if Kristie does say yes

Lynn I don't think it has to be set in England and have a forest. The only one that has to be the location is the Location task (London for city and if you can't find a book set in the city than you can have the country or state setting, but for reduced points).

I'll ask Kristie to make sure.
She did approve your book, so I slotted you for London #4

message 21: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments Maybe I'm misunderstanding the rules (bearing in mind that previous posts were early hours of the morning and now when I've just woken up) but I thought that
1) You get points for completing the prompt
2) You get extra points if the location is the same

So yes while my book qualifies for set in a forest, we can get extra points if someone finds a book that is also set in London (or England).

Am I understanding this wrong???

Lynn | 2974 comments I've just seen Kristie's response and I'm sooooo confused lol

I can't work out which is the location task?

Ignore me, worked it out! The location task is an additional task to the prompts. ::facepalm::

message 23: by Lynn (new)

Lynn | 2974 comments With that in mind, I do have books set in London that I can use for the additional task if needed.

No worries :)
I have a few that are set in England that I could read too, if I read the books that I have for other city tasks.

Jayme | 4527 comments Here's what we have filled so far team Three for the Road https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I think we should also be trying to fill the other city tasks, if you don't have a book that fits for the empty slots in London (at least read a book for each city to get the extra 10 circuit bonus points). I'm going to read 2 for Chicago for sure since they aren't long and fill the task requirements and I have others that I can read for the other cities, but I will decide as the toppler week progresses and if I have time to get to those reads.

if you can't find books to read for any of the other city tasks, I can also slot in Flea Market Magic ~ Read a book that is part of a series with 6 or more main works (London 10) for you. Even though Amanda is reading for it, we can read a task several times and get points for it.

Let me know what you would like me to do :)

There's no need unless you want me to fill that slot specifically. It's just a book that is already available to me, but I have plenty of others. I was just listing the ones that fit prompts for London.

Hi Marie - We have most of London complete except for London # 6 - a book with a statue. You are more than welcomed to read those books of course because we can get points for them or you can gopher the other city sites - let me know what you would like to do and I will put you in.

We are still looking for a book for London # 6 statute on the cover. I can't seem to find one.

Looks great! Are you planning on reading all of them, or start with Chicago? Let me know what you think you will read and shoot me the title of the book/books and I will plug them in.

I have you down for Berlin 5 with Medusa and Chicago 6 with 172 Hours on the Moon. I might move it to New York. I'm just waiting for a ruling from Kristie if she will accept "172" as a word.

Jayme | 4527 comments London is complete!!

I found a book I can read for London 6 - statue on cover, but I'm going to remove one of my Chicago reads. That way we have London finished and can get the 20 bonus points for completing a city.

Jayme | 4527 comments We have 3 in Chicago now, so could start going for it.

Also, if we read a book from each city we will get 10 bonus points for completing the "city circuit". So we need to read a book from Tokyo, Boston, and New York for those points. we can always focus on that towards the end of the toppler to see where we are at.
