It's time for our next Read-a-Thon, and we are taking it to the tent for the Great ATY Bake Off!

Around the Year

It's time to fill your bakery case with goodies. You will read books to bake sweets and pastries! Each pastry takes a different number of books, depending on complexity.

You can bake your pastries in any order that you'd like, and you can bake multiple pastries at once (infinite oven space!). Don't forget about your sprinkles! You get some for every 1000 pages read (or 10 hours of audio listed to).

You'll want to create the best bakery case that you can bake, so make sure you have at least one of every type of goodie... they are all important to your score! You can have multiples of the same types of pastries as well.

SPRINKLES
Adds a bit of flair and decoration to your pastries and sweets.

Earn a sprinkle of sprinkles for every 1000 pages read as a team.
Earn a sprinkle of sprinkles for every 10 hours of audio listened to.

FAQs

message 4: by Irene (last edited Feb 18, 2022 02:12PM) (new)

Irene (irene5) | 905 comments Hi! This is more like an English question but does "somewhere you'd like to visit" mean that it's somewhere you've never been but hope to see, or does it include places you've visited many times and want to visit again?

And a second question: Is "Adeline" close enough to "Madeline" to be variant of it? Hahaha xD

message 5: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1837 comments Is there no individual challenge this time, or has it just not been posted yet?

message 6: by Kathy Jo (new)

Kathy Jo (kjsotr) | 304 comments Sorry to be that person, but…..
I forgot to go back and sign up. Can I still join?

message 7: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2094 comments What's the page minimum for graphic novels?

message 8: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3268 comments For some reason, I was convinced this was happening next week! Is it too late to join a team?

Emily Bourque (emilyardoin) | 11188 comments Mod
Irene, you can use whatever you'd like for "somewhere you'd like to visit". I've visited Colorado many times, but this week, I'd like to visit it again. So it would count, I'd say. Adeline probably wouldn't though lol.

Nancy, I think Jackie was working on it, but we've all had surprisingly busy weeks so it may be a bit delayed. Check for it later tomorrow.

Kathy Jo and Rachel, not too late, just go sign up on the sign up thread and we will get you squared away.

Kendra, page minimum for graphic novels is 200 pages. Regular novels is 100.

message 10: by Jennifer AM (new)

Jennifer AM | 21 comments Sorry if this has been answered somewhere, but is there a percentage of a book you have to have left for it to count for things we are already reading? I'm 19% into a book that will work well for this challenge, so can that still count?

As long as you have 100 pages left, you can count it.

Jillian is correct!

message 13: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 2573 comments Silly mod question- Book with red on the cover: Are we going with predominantly color red, or it has something red on the cover and most importantly does the word "red" in the title count?

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1027 comments Just a note to let the mods know I already enjoyed myself immensely just reading this Introduction! I don't know how you-all are so creative, but I am grateful you are!! Thank you for creating and managing this event!!

Red as a word on the cover counts. In terms of the color red, it needs to be easily identifiable by anyone who looks. So it doesn't necessarily need to be a main color, but it needs to be large enough that you can easily look at the cover and go yep there's red.

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1027 comments Question regarding the Madeleine author prompt.

Madeleine Wickham has books published in both this name as well as the pseudonym Sophie Kinsella. Would any of the Sophie Kinsella books also fulfill this prompt?

Similarly, Madeleine Brent is a pseudonym used by Peter O'Donnell. Would the books published under his real name count?

Thanks!

message 17: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (pebbles320) Hi all, just thought I'd share a useful Listopia I found for 'books with shells on the cover', in case anyone else is a bit stuck on that prompt! Turns out there are a fair few to choose from.

Cool! That should be a big help. I will also note that I just discovered that a book I am finishing for a book club meeting tomorrow, Raybearer (Raybearer #1) also has a shell on the cover! (At the top of her forehead.)

message 19: by Katherine (new)

Katherine | 234 comments Crazy question about shells... what about whole eggs on the cover? Those could be shells, right? LOL :-) (Only asking because I have a book in my classroom with eggs predominantly on the cover, and have never read it, but I could next week!)

Thanks! That's what I thought - I have one with a red chair but it's also black and white and I also have The Red Lotus out from the library so wanted to make sure that was fair game because I need to read it and return it :-)

I'll allow it, since technically, the other pseudonyms could be considered "nicknames"... plus I know it's a tough prompt lol.

I'll also allow eggs because why not lol

Kendra | 2094 comments Does Cold as in Before the Coffee Gets Cold: Tales from the Café count as a flavour word?

message 28: by Jackie, Solstitial Mod (new)

Jackie | 2452 comments Mod
No, that's a temperature, not really a flavor.

message 29: by Kendra (new)

Kendra | 2094 comments Jackie wrote: "No, that's a temperature, not really a flavor."

I figured it was a stretch, but it was the only book on my list that was even remotely close.
