Play Book Tag discussion

A professional version of fan fiction where James creates a sequel to Pride and Prejudice. It is 6 years later and everyone is still somewhat happily married and now with children. On a stormy eve of a very popular ball, Lydia is sneaking to Pemberley to join the ball even without an invitation. Her husband, Wickham, is well known to be formally banned from the property. Just outside of Pemberley, Captain Denny and Wickham fight leading to both mean disappearing into the dark woods on a stormy night leaving Lydia to arrive hysterically on her own fearing for the life of her husband. The men at Pemberley investigate and come back with a drunk and despairing Wickham and the dead body of Captain Denny. The investigation and trial follow to determine what really happened that night of the ball.

It was fun to be with the beloveds of P&P again even if not quite the same. The mystery was interesting enough but all told in confession rather than any true investigation or discovery. It ended up being a bit of a sad story. I'm not sure that I hit on James' most representative work as she tried to do justice to Austen. It was enjoyable enough.

I found this enjoyable but far from James' normally superior detective fiction.
