Thomas | 8 comments Hi folks,

due to the planned translation into english of my science Thriller
"Die Nanolithografie" I need a new book title.

The book is a close to the reality science Thriller and describes a possible new Cyber War scenario. A team of specialists wants to launch a new player in the world of Chip design and IT Science- covered by a consortium of some nations which are not in the loop of High Tec and High End Chip Design. They want to break the leadership of the USA and Japan in this future technologies. Unfortunately the activities were disturbed by a rumble in the market. A killed Scientist and Specialist for the integration of Q-Bits in the old digital world has left a secret with his death - a new technology which could gain a lot of profit and a technology advantage.
Due to this some more player also try to find out more about the secret and an international political affair starts with an unforeseen conspiration of ...... ( this would be a "Spoiler”)
The story behind is the current development of Quantencomputer and the race against the end of Moore´s Law.

I hope this describes the Pitch. The idea to use my German title " Die Nanolithografie" is not possible, there´s a book which have a similar title, a real scientific book about this technology. So I ‘need to find a new title.

With regards to the Story (I describe a lot of computer stuff about Hacker and Viruses and Hardware development) I want to have a title which clearly show this content--maybe:

Behind the failover
The Nano Lithography Exploit
The Nano Lithography Conspiration

So, maybe somebody have a better idea, it´s difficult for me to evaluate the "Touch" of a title when you are not a native speaker-- I want know if one of this title would be an inspiration to buy this thriller?

Thanks for your help

K.P. Merriweather (kp_merriweather) | 276 comments why not call it nanolithography? but for something more punchy i wouldnt know what else to suggest given what little i know about the story

Not knowing the details, I might go with "The Nano Conspiracy," or even "The Nano-Lith Conspiracy." You want to keep it as short and memorable as possible.

"The Nano No No." ???? Meh, maybe, or maybe not.

D.S. Wrights (dswrights) I prefer the first with the third as subtitle. (giving my five cents despite being a native speaker, sorry ^^)

Abigail Sharpe (abigailsharpe) If I saw nano lithography, my eyes would cross. But I have simple tastes. :)

Can you use the word Hack somewhere in the title?

Thomas | 8 comments Okay,an ungoing discussion. But a nice idea really might be

BEHIND THE FAILOVER
The Nano-Chip Gambit? Hack? Conspiracy?

I looked to the meaning of "Gambit". It´s a strategic option to begin a cheese game and in german it would mean to drive a high risk strategy in the way you start a negotiation or a discussion-- but is it comon in english- around the world?
And would you go with the idea as main title " Behind the Failover" . Is the word Failover mainly adapted to the IT world or could it have meanings which may confuse?
I think we are close to find a name- maybe somebody has an idea to descripe in three words an political affair when an international organisation try to implement a global Virus like Stuxnet, Flame etc?? Or even what the NSA is doing when they implement backdoors in the software to control the internet and to hack into every IT system world wide??

Thanks in advance for good ideas--

Theresa (theresa99) | 535 comments Wow. I guess the question is if the targeted audience is thriller readers or computer people who just happen to like thrillers? I am not completely computer illiterate, but Nanolith...whatever just kind of makes my eyes bug out. I would expect it to be high on technical "mumbo-jumbo" I don't understand.

Now if that "mumbo-jumbo" is the central element (most if not all details of the technology is explained etc.) having a super computer tech title makes sense.

However, if it is just the driving force and the story really revolves around the humans involved in the conspiracy and the race to get the technology that will thrill many readers, then maybe you need something a little more universal while still conveying the computer theme.

Nanovirus Conspiracy? Halt and Catch Fire? Nanohacker?

That's my very few cents. Honestly, I don't know much about nanotechnology in this format.

message 11: by Thomas (new)

Thomas | 8 comments Oaky, I the idea "..... Failover" seems to be too much technical not comon...but maybe it will make the people curious or snoopy??

Nanovirus Conspiracy - sounds good- Viral Conspiracy -- maybe to global?? Could be also a story about the Ebola Virus??

By the way-- Mumbo- Jumbo..:) pretty nice way to describe the circimstances-

For information.. I also have a thread regarding " Find a Titel for the english translation in the bookcrossing commmunity:

http://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/5/5...

So I want to come back to the word "Gambit" and the suggestion The Nano Chip Gambit?? An option??

Halt and catch fire? I don´t understand the translation- but it´s an american TV series...

Nanohacker? The Nano Chip Hack?

Okay- I have another Idea

"The forgotten Patent" but I´m not sure regarding the international copyrights maybe somebody can loom closer to this -- I´ve found nothing with google??

Any other Idea??

R.F.G. Cameron | 443 comments International Patents are covered a few different ways, like the PCT and WIPO.

International Copyrights are mainly covered under two treaties.

Thomas | 8 comments Okay- after doing some research and looking to other english booktitles I have find a great title which describe, make snoopy and is maybe a title for a blockbuster :)

THE BELL´S THEOREM CONSPRIRACY
Cyber War 2.0

Together with the cover (please look here)
www.nanolithografie.com (klick "Cover")

it will be an eycatcher :) !

Any other suggestions-- I also have also

THE QUANTUM ENTANGLEMENT EXPERIMENT

in mind, or

The Cyber War 2.0 Consortium

?????

Thanks for help in advance-- the author

message 16: by Thomas (new)

Thomas | 8 comments Okay we have a new direction

Only Cyber War 2.0 would be really strong- but maybe a little bit to "undefined"- more like Science Fiction- not like a Science Thriller mixed with White Collar Crime.

Cyber War 2.0 Crunch?? Crisis?? Outbreak?? Breakdown??

THE CYBER WAR 2.0 CONSPIRACY this might bet he best choice?

Okay - any other idea??

Thriller, I'm assuming you created a second Goodreads account: Nanolithografie.

Correct?

I see that's your Twitter username, so that answers my question.

message 20: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (theresa99) | 535 comments The Cyberwarfare Gambit could be an interesting title.

The Halt and Catch Fire idea came from a computer virus back in the day: Halt and Catch Fire, known by the assembly mnemonic HCF, refers to several computer machine code instructions that cause a computer's CPU to cease meaningful operation. The expression "catch fire" is intended as a joke; the CPU does not literally catch fire, but it does stop functioning. It is also occasionally referred to as "SDI" for "Self Destruct Immediate".

The TV series is about something else entirely I think, borrowing from the original virus name.

Nanolithografie | 2 comments In the bookcrossing comuntity (http://www.bookcrossing.com/forum/5/5...) we have an discussion regarding the sence to find a book title without reading a book and why I´m not asking a Translator, her´s my answer:

I agree with the idea to ask a or the translator, but normaly they are not in charge regarding marketing issues. They are able to help with grammar etc, but my intention is to have a first impression regarding a direction. More technically, more common, more IT, more like an acronym, or "Halt and catch fire"....

I have so many ideas. A big audience like in the internet is much more helpufull then one person-- I´don´t have the money to pay for an agency service......

Furthermore I want to make a little bit "Premarketing" first with a "Handout" and therefore a title which will maybe not the final title is ok- when you want to start as Indie Author to launch a book on the international market- without a big budget- it´s difficult to handle all the small things- I´m alone :(

So I prefer the "Crowd Solution" and ask all!

I apologize also my bad english writing, but I don´t use any help-- I ´m typing this during w... :)

PS: A book title normaly is not really matched with the book content- it´s a little bit random - I title must sell- with regards to the AIDA formula - Attention, Interest, Desire Action!

So, is there anybody outside who may has an interesting Idea- I will name him in the translation :)- thanks to ...

So, who would go with the

Cyberwarefare Gambit??

rgds from Germany

message 22: by Ingrid Geibel (new)

Ingrid Geibel I like many of these ideas so far but I think "Gambit" is too vague and can mean anything from Ploy to Strategy to Scheme or Ruse, so first off you are running the risk of someone not being sure which of these is mean and secondly, not to imply a browser of titles is unknowledgeable but Gambit might not be a word familiar to your intended audience.

I really liked "The Cyber Warfare Gambit" but what about "The Cyber Warfare Conspiracy"?

I can't speak for the U.K.'s English preferences but Americans love their conspiracies and in my opinion this could help the title be an eye catcher.

The Translation Project " The Cyber War Conspiracy!

A true sci fi techno Thriller

Cyber War Conspiracy sketches a frightening conspiracy in the framework of a worldwide cyber war. A scenario that could become reality. In brutal detail the author describes how the superpowers try to control and rule the world. Murder and intrigue in the world of chip technology!

About me, the project and stuff behind

Curiously? You want to read more? You find a short description here or you can read the excerpt which will give you a good first impression of my book. If you want to read the whole book, you must wait until I have raised enough money for the translation from German into English. If you want to support the project please follow the link (only preview!):

I have published this book as Indie Author and the original title is "Die Nanolithografie". You can buy it as print and E-Book everywhere, worldwide -until now only in German!

The Story

Marc Jansen works or the firm Technology News Research as a specialist on semiconductor technology. While preparing a market analysis on network chips for Victor Navarro’s office that specializes in the international law on patents, he learns that Orlando Lopez, famous for his work in the area of quantum computer science and semiconductor physics, has been found dead in a canal in Bangkok. It is alleged that he took to his watery grave a scientific sensation.

When Marc Jansen unexpectedly gets an offer of first-hand collaboration with Navarro’s office, he suddenly sees the possibility of immediately changing his life, which till then had been rather boring. The first assignment he is to work on is, of all things, research for an international consortium into the alleged discovery Lopez was working on up to his death.

With no hesitation Marc resigns from his job and agrees to take it on. For the task the mysterious South American woman Lana de Vries is assigned as his partner. A bizarre contest to find Lopez‘s alleged discovery starts. The maelstrom Marc and Lana are caught up in is one of murder, corruption, and intrigue that goes right up to the highest nerve centres of international powers.

Opinions from reviews
An exciting, up-to-date scientific thriller that could well occupy a sure spot in the genre „thriller“. With his book the author sets up a frightening scenario of spying in the world of science. (Amazon)

In the battle for power a human life counts for nothing – an explosive theme well presented (Lovelybooks)

This first novel contains all the classical elements of a thriller. It is concerned just as much with research, quantum computer science and semiconductor technology as with plots, corruption, and murder! (Magazine for Computer Technology c´t 1/15)
Thanks for the support!
