If you have any suggestions or ideas on anything you would like to see in the group please put them here. We are open to all suggestions :)

Good idea Papa! We'll make it happen, and you're right, reality is sometimes the worst nightmare!

Same although while I read crime thrillers and crime fiction I wouldn't mind giving it a try to read.

Papaphilly | 404 comments I would like to see a thread on the discussion on the nature of horror. What people find as horror. I do no think there is any one true definition, but a wide array of what we all see. I do not see this as a list of authors or books, but the general idea.

Papaphilly | 404 comments Graeme wrote: "Like a discussion of the nature of the genre, Papaphilly?"

Exactly

The genre has changed dramatically since the golden days. It is interesting to me to see what scares people and what do they not find to be horror.

Vickie (bookfan4ever) | 290 comments Just a quick question... I saw there is a buddy read under the horror genre folder vs the buddy read folder. Is that where you mods prefer the buddy reads to go, in the appropriate genre folder and not under buddy reads? Just wanted to be sure before posting a thread. Thanks!

Great question. Yes. We are trying to keep things organized with the buddy reads by genre. So horror buddy reads would go under the horror folder - fantasy buddy reads would go under the fantasy folder, and etc. Thanks for asking! :)

Kevin | 217 comments Hello there. What about a crowd-funding thread? Authors can get a shameless plug for their not-yet-published book? Not sure if it's been mentioned before or if its against any rules. Just a thought.

Thanks!

Kevin

Hi Kevin, no we don't do any money raising here on GR, think there are websites designed for it, where you can do it tho :)

Kevin | 217 comments Kasia wrote: "Hi Kevin, no we don't do any money raising here on GR, think there are websites designed for it, where you can do it tho :)"

Ok. Not for me though. Just thinking of those that have a kickstarter and they could drop a quick link to the crowd-funding site is all. Not use this site as a funding site.

message 35: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan | 1263 comments The Author promotions thread could be used for links to other sites, if GR still allows that.

So, e.g. An author could post a comment describing their crowd funding and a link.

I don't know, it's a step past 'here is my current free or discounted book.'

message 36: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan | 1263 comments Kevin, I assume you mean sites like Patreon, etc

I.e. https://www.patreon.com/en-GB

message 37: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan | 1263 comments As an ex-mod, my concern would be the amount of potential moderation activity to weed out the unscrupulous from the genuine. If a group allows members to solicit funds, why stop at authors, why not any member?

What happens if a member gets scammed - then there's bad blood in the group?

Could be a can of worms best left closed.

Kevin | 217 comments Graeme wrote: "Kevin, I assume you mean sites like Patreon, etc

I saw Author Promotions thread and it seemed like it was for already published works.

I was thinking a thread for someone to say "hi, here's a link to my kickstarter, its a book about......thanks!"

Not trying to use this site to generate funding on this site. That would be a nightmare for the reasons you stated.

I'm just trying to help people get their ideas out there.

message 39: by Graeme (new)

Graeme Rodaughan | 1263 comments Kevin wrote: "I was thinking a thread for someone to say "hi, here's a link to my kickstarter, its a book about......thanks!"..."

Indeed, Kevin.

If an author is promoting their book, then that's already covered under the author promotions folder. re this comment. https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

I.e. Authors can set up a thread and promote their books.

(Noting that since no one else has done that, I'll break the ice over there.)

Unfortunately to have that type of extreme horror in this group I would have to put the age restriction of 18+ back on this group and I just had it taken off of here from Goodreads staff as it was keeping some people from joining.

Sassy Sedusa | 85 comments how about creating the thread and post it with a an age restriction and warning?

example- the post in this thread consists of mature material or something like that. 🤷‍♀️

You cannot do it that way - Goodreads wants the groups that have that kind of material to be completely age restricted. There are groups like that on Goodreads and you are not allowed to view the threads unless you are a member. The whole group has to be age restricted.
