Noel (noel02) | 3 comments This edition of The Metamorphosis and Other Stories and every edition of The Metamorphosis, In the Penal Colony, and Other Stories have the exact same stories, and the Schocken editions are just the same book under a different title. How should these editions be combined? The different editions under Kafka’s Selected Stories/The Metamorphosis and Other Stories all have different stories under the same titles. I’m wondering whether it’s worth trying to fix that (if I even can) or whether I should leave things the way they are.

Renske | 12220 comments In theory the content should determine which editions need to be combined together. In practice it is (nearly) impossible with these kind of works.
For the people want to try to sort it out, it can be very hard or simply impossible to find the needed information about specific editions.
And these kind of works are unfortunately quite sensitive to mistakes. People who have tried to sort it out, might give up when their work is undone by an incorrect combining.

Noel (noel02) | 3 comments Thanks, Renske. It seems the editions can roughly be divided into the ones that collect all the published stories (Penguin) and the ones that don’t (Bantam, Barnes and Noble, Dover, etc.). I’m going to break it up using WorldCat as a guide and put notes up. If I can’t find the table of contents for the translations, I’ll leave them as they are. There are so many… It’s also upsetting because most users don’t change from the default edition.
