VAL doesn't need handouts. Doesn't need to be seen as a charity case. When her family managed to cross the border, they weren't looking to scrounge off the hardworking people that already lived there. The intention had always been to join them. Her parents had stuck themselves promptly into the workforce upon their arrival. Not even a place to sleep or food in their bellies, and they had marched into a factory and asked for jobs. The gumption of it had earned them work, but they remained on the streets. Used public facilities to keep themself clean, for the most part.

Val and her siblings were sent to school. Nothing extravagant by the standards of West Katos, but it was far better than the East. The otherness of her and her brothers stuck out. But it wasn't like they would fall apart. They were resilient, unbreakable. Val found herself in a crowd that played at being like East Katos. Kids going through rebellious phases and claiming they would be the greatest thing across the border. She could play that role easy, be like them.

Her parents would scrape together enough money to stick them in a small home, but they would need to move. They would need to — assimilate. Being surrounded by boys (two older and one younger), Val found that it wasn't so easy to hold onto the girlish typical fascinations that those in her age group had. By the time she was thirteen, she'd given it up. Came off as a punk kid rocking an East Katos grunge that drew people in. She didn't share her stories of the time she'd lived there, but the general affect had been enough.

She was drawn to music through a program in school, and it was like it had always been set in stone. Her musical aspirations were encouraged, but funds had always been sorely lacking. And there was the matter of her style and what had been desired at the time. But she held fast. Like a fist around a throat. But this made her the subject of ridicule in some instances, and Valentina Valdez was not someone that took that sort of thing lightly.

Being driven might not have mattered so much in East Katos, but it mattered in the West. Val would end up finding herself in a band by the time she was twenty, performing in clubs and scattered bars. People liked them and their sound. They had a way of attracting people, and they will use that to attract a label deal.

For now, she works as a bartender to help with the family bills and studio fees.

YULE does not seem to give many people the confidence that he has very many thoughts in his head. From an early age, this was how it always been. A young boy with no filter living in a less than friendly neighborhood. There's no surprise that he would have run into his fair share of trouble. What did, and sometimes still does, was how easily he could handle himself. His parents had been hunters, every last one of them. Content at one point to live out in the woods for a time before game became scarce and they decided that a change in scenery might be nice.

He was ten when they moved into the city. The dangers he had to be wary of had changed dramatically, but that hadn't changed him. Stubborn in the worst ways, he was never far from finding himself in one fight or another. But, well, the perks of living in the woods meant that he had done plenty in the way of heavy-lifting chores. More muscle mass and fighting off cousins and siblings just meant for being able to handle himself.

By the time he was fifteen, he'd earned himself a reputation. A general wariness from others that would give him a certain berth. Even if he was a pretty face with no filter, he could back up what he said. And to make it all worse: he played by the rules. A blind faith in the law and rules handed down to him. He didn't, doesn't need to resort to dirty tricks to get the result he desires, which is typically pummeling someone into the dirt with brute strength. And yet, somehow, there are still people that test him. Those who probably don't know any better.

At first, he had only taken the odd job of deliveries to the bar, messing around in the back with employees he did know and frightening those he didn't with too-loud laughter. He was only eighteen, after all, it wasn't like he could actively be serving alcohol. But the bar owner had seen some potential in him. Namely: the fact that he forgot most of what was told to him by drunk patrons in passing.

Yule isn't entirely stupid, but he's not exactly someone that has information actively sticking in his brain. It's mostly all muscle memory; a sort of coasting through life with routine interactions and predictable dialogue. There isn't much variation and when someone decides to spill their guts to him when he first works the bar, he blinked and promptly forgot by the next time he saw them. It got around that there was one bartender you could tell your worries to, and suddenly he was a lot more popular than he intended.

But he's not above kicking minors out of the bar. That's against the rules, after all.

Backstory:Growing up, Cole lived on the West Side of Katos, but it changed shortly after he turned 12 when he finally broke and ran away. His mother was raped, getting pregnant with Cole, and his father was never figured out. His mother had died giving birth though, leaving him to be with his uncle.

Lore:As Cole's uncle was well respected in the city, at home he was a different man. Any problems he had at work? He'd force Cole to deal with. Someone pissed the man off? He'd either hit on Cole or get drunk, both resulting in Cole getting a beating. When drunk though, glass bottles always seemed to be thrown at Cole.
The day Cole finally broke was the day his uncle nearly killed him. The adult was drunk again, didn't like what Cole had made for dinner, didn't like Cole's 'slow' pace, was angered at work, and was over all in his worst mood yet. Cole had muttered something about it and his uncle had heard him, deciding to smash one of his beer bottles over his head and used what was left of the bottle to slice his back, leaving a deep scar that's dark against his pale skin.
Cole ended up passing out from the loss of blood at the moment, waking up late in the night finally. He felt the police would never beilieve him, so he fixed himself up enough to get to his room, pack up what he had, grabbed some money out of his uncle's safe, and ran off. He never went back to the West Side of town in fear of seeing him again.

↳ Like I said before, Jay is a terrible person to confront, especially if he's in a bad mood, and that's when you really don't want to come near him. There are two outcomes; he will either ignore you, or he will snap. The latter ends rather...messily. He has an animalistic nature and has little to no control over his hunger for blood. He rarely ever lets a single being live through his rampages, so it's best to avoid him when he is given a chance to attack.
↳ Although he is a dark and sadistic person, and he seems like the tough guy in the relationship, Jay is actually the quite opposite. His heart is fragile and terrifyingly easy to manipulate. He'll give them his undivided attention if they simply ask. Whatever his beloved desires, they shall receive it, no matter the cost. He becomes a severe danger to himself. Failure of meeting expectations will cause himself to set punishments for himself, which would consist of self-starvation, removing social contact from his schedule, or even sleep. His fear for disappointing the one he cares for in such a deep way shakes him to the bone, and he will do anything to keep them happy. To him, as long as they're happy, so is he. Nothing else would matter to him. Heartbreak? Well, we don't want to go into what he'd do to himself if that ever came into his picture.

Miles grew up as a sheltered golden child with his two brothers who knew nothing about anything except for what his parents wanted him to. He would go to the galas with his model mother and take trips with his businessman father. Miles was content with life until he found out that there were others out there who weren't living perfect little lives. The idea of not having everything was confusing to Miles and at the age of 14, he decided to check out for himself where he illegally snuck out into other parts of the kingdom. He ventured in and out for about a year before the authorities discovered and reported it to his parents who 'punished' him severely for it. Ever since 'good-boy’ Miles was long gone, replaced by an outspoken and independent one who decided he wasn't just going to accept the norm. When 5 years passed he moved to the west side and started this group of people called ‘Legends of Lions’ they started lots of crimes on the west side.

History: Both of Kyo’s parents were around, and so were his siblings. His siblings often played outside, hung out with their friends and got messy, whereas he chose to help out around the house and stay in his room. He did socialize, and would even hold book clubs up in his room - though, being viewed as boring, as he got older he did slightly more ‘daring’ things to fit in. It…worked, over all. Kyo’s parents did get a divorce at one point, when he was just 13. It was due to them just simply not getting along for a good years time. This damaged him and his siblings, but he stayed tall. It helped him relate more to his friends' family situations when they needed advice…besides, he still got to see his father every once in a while.

Serafim’s mother was a famous wealthy actress whereas their father was a secret wealthy undercover crime lord in the West Katos. Serafirm had a twisted family life, growing up taking acting classes, in addition to being trained by his own mother to act, where they also had both did films together because of it, yet albeit also was being hard trained by his father in different martial arts. Being hard trained by his father, and also being that his own dad’s father trained his dad also just as hard, more like a soldier, and in many other different styles of training even in traditional martial arts, in addition to Serafim’s own father also being a former marine like soldier, and also trained in gymnastics. Despite this, he has developed a quick tongue and a sarcastic, dry sense of humor.
Appearance: Stands at 5'5", though because he hunches he looks smaller. His appearance is unsettling to those unfamiliar with it and he often wears a black cloak to hide his features. Oily, shoulder length black hair frames a face with colorless, sunken eyes that look a little too bright and clever for comfort, and crooked yellow teeth. His pale skin has a blue-gray tinge to it and one of his hands is deformed from birth, having only three fingers.

When Alessandra was 14, her mother had been recognized at the lodge they were staying at, and many powerful men she had stolen from came after her. Yet, even though it seemed her fate was set in stone, she made a grand show of stealing a boat and fleeing to the West Katos, leaving Scarlett nothing but a couple pouches of coins and a whisper of "I taught you well." Alessandra spent whatever was left of her childhood stealing food and coins to survive, using the name Asher Gray. Over time, Alessandra built a reputation for herself as an outlaw and a thief, known for leaving a black crow feather whenever she stole something, and so earning the name "The Crow". ⚪Personality: Despite her living conditions, Emilia grew up a very mean girl. Since she had many siblings, her parents only gave the money to the children. Being the youngest, Emilia was spoiled the most. Which lead to her cocky nature and mean personality.

Emilia Grace Lee was born on November 20th, she was born with almost icy blue eyes and a full head of hair. As a child, Emilia's parents always got her anything she wanted. The girl grew up very spoiled. But she's growing into a nice person, she's in between right now.

When she had turned 10, she'd stole from most of the people she lived near, because of her sweet face, no one suspected the girl was a thief. Sometimes she'd wanted to go to the west but due to the high security, she could never sneak in.

Personality: People’s perceptions of Obi are fully based on what he chooses for them to see. To some: a kid shoved into a bad situation who never got a highschool education, thrust into a world of sex, money and addiction. A charity case. One of those people you see on the streets holding up a sign, but you turn away anyway because you don’t have time for that.
To others: a bratty teen with a foul mouth who got what was coming to him. He deserved being in the sex industry cause obviously he must’ve done something bad enough to warrant it. If he wanted to, with a little hard work, he could pull himself out of it, maybe make a real living.
And to more still: a temptation. A sin, turned flesh and bone. That one night fling that you use to cheat on your wife because screw that hag. You do it to make her angry. A devil who calls to you with a silver tongue, promising a night of release, no regrets and fun. With fluttering lashes and pursed lips, he whispers seductions into your ear and makes you act out. But it wasn’t your fault, because he was the one who purred sweet nothings to you in the dead of night.
Obi’s real self is buried underneath years of lying and a persona taken on depending on the client. Even he himself wonders who he was - who he still may be - before the drugs and the alcohol, before the bleeding, painful sex, before the murmurs of false praise, before the lonely nights of tears staining his bedding. Who was he before his life turned to a shitty routine of seduction, sex, then money?
He can picture a little boy with a few teeth missing, smiling brightly at his mother, some kind of dessert making his face a mess. He can picture a boy who didn’t know how cruel people could be. He can picture a boy with soft, untouched skin and glittering eyes, grinning so easily at every little thing. It made him feel a grief he didn’t know he harbored, because it must’ve been so long ago.

History: !TW! Contains SA! (view spoiler)[Obi knew he had a loving family. He remembered a boisterous woman with easy smiles and arms that hugged tight. He remembered a man who was much more soft spoken, but who wore his heart on his sleeve. He remembered being spoiled rotten, but still being taught valuable lessons in life. His memories of this life were few but precious. He looked at his old life from an outsider’s point of view. The person he was molded into now, could never have been this loved, this cared for.
His more vivid memories were harder to swallow. He knew that money had started becoming more scarce. His father had lost his job at some point, for an unknown reason. Tears became the replacement of laughter, and as much as his parents attempted to hide it from him, Obi knew they were losing everything, and fast. His mother started disappearing multiple times a day, coming back with tousled hair and eye bags, like life had beaten her and urged her to get back up. She went to do odd jobs, he later found out. And it pained his father to know that she’d started whoring herself out, but there was really nothing he could do.
A few months later, his mother contracted a disease that made her unable to work any more, and suddenly they had lost their house. While his father had been trying his hardest to find his own job, he couldn’t afford the medication that his mother required. He left to try and cross the border to the west, and never came back. In the next few months, with no way to feed herself or Obi other than fruitless begging, Obi’s mother died, no burial or funeral provided for a street wench.
As an orphaned eight year old with no means of income, it was frankly inevitable that something bad would happen. Obi was a pretty kid, according to the men who kidnapped him - could you really call it a kidnapping if he didn’t have anybody or anywhere to go back to? - and that meant that he was easily sold into the sex industry. At first he was kidnapped just to be some kind of worker, though he had no idea what he was working for. The other kids didn’t either. Then at age eleven, he bloomed and was almost immediately made into a prostitute for old men who lusted after kids.
The first few months were the hardest. He threw up almost constantly, and found himself in a deep depression. He couldn’t fathom why he was being made to do the things he did. He hated himself more than anyone else did. As time went on, he accepted what he was. A few years working as a prostitute made him almost famous in the underground. Unfortunately, it earned him the attention of a man who owned rental apartments. Very quickly, the man became a regular client of Obi’s, even seven years later. Instead of paying him, Obi got his own apartment for exchange. It was a shitty place, but it was better than nothing. (hide spoiler)]

Description: Obi has a skinny form, ribs slightly visible from malnourishment. He has a long neck, described as “swan-like”. His skin is ghostly pale, his veins showing. His fingers are long, nails cut short. He’s tall but elegant, whereas he used to be awkward. After years of being a sex worker, where being appealing is the most important factor, he had to learn to take advantage of the “gift” of natural beauty he was given.
Obi’s face is angled with high cheekbones and perfectly trimmed eyebrows. He has an upturned nose and soft pink lips. His lips are very slightly red from being bitten so often and slightly downturned. He has almost a permanent pout on his face. Obi’s eye’s are a blue-green color with flecks of gold in the center. He has monolid eyes and long lashes that kiss his cheeks every time he blinks. He has multiple ear piercings, and piercings elsewhere, but not his face. Apparently it would ruin his beauty. His hair reaches his shoulders and is dyed a silvery purple. It curls very gently at the bottom but other than that, it’s straight. Typically, he wears it partly up.
