Valerie | 280 comments Wanting to have something enjoyable to read, and also wanting another poetry book to add to my challenge, this book was one I grabbed from the lists I came across. I also had to look up why it was banned, as this book is one we find in our children's libraries across the US. The reasons, they say, were because it glorified the devil, and it made children disrespectful of their chores. (It made a funny poem about the devil, and it talked about throwing dishes on the floor instead of washing them.)

I found the reasons kind of silly, and I found many of the poems silly as well. But, the silly in the poems was enjoyable, and laugh out loud!

As a matter of fact, I laughed out loud so often my husband started having me read to him what I was laughing about each time. When I finally finished it and returned it to the library, we agreed the book needed to be in our home library, and we bought a copy for ourselves. (And, to share with our grandchildren!)

I had read Where the Sidewalk Ends, but I do not recall laughing as much as I did with this book. Now, I am checking out the other Silverstein books that I have not read to see if they will give me as much pleasure. Who knows, I may have to make another trip to the bookstore....

Shannan | 51 comments Thanks for the suggestion. I'm really enjoying this book. Strangely enough, I've never read any of Silverstein's books, although I've certainly heard of them.
