Booknblues | 12097 comments The dates have been set with July 26, 2022 the announcement of the Longlist.

Also the judges have been chosen. How do you think they will effect the choice for the longlist?

Tracy (tstan) | 1261 comments Looks like there could be some history, and maybe some magical realism. These judges appear to be much more academically experienced than some of the judges from recent years.
Hopefully they will choose a good longlist- with a little bit of everything.

KateNZ | 4101 comments No crime thrillers or graphic novels this year, aye Tracy?!

Tracy (tstan) | 1261 comments Oh I hope not!

I actually liked the graphic novel, but I have mixed feelings about the graphic genre as Bookerish. The crime thriller, I have to admit, I still haven’t read, and don’t plan to- it just doesn’t appeal to me.

There were some really bad ones over the last couple lists- some dystopian novels that were just not written well. I don’t mind dystopian- but it’s gotta have a plot🙄

Nicole D. | 1573 comments i'm not very good at predicting the longlist, but I did well last year predicting the shortlist and the winner.

KateNZ | 4101 comments I liked Sabrina too (to my immense surprise) and would never have read it if it hadn’t been listed, but it was a real misfit on the Booker list.

I’ve been very lazy the last couple of years (or rather, over-occupied at work) so want to make up for that this year.

A funny story about Sabrina which I think I’ve told before: I was reading it on the train, much to the fascination of a late-teenager sitting opposite me. As we were exiting he said he’d never seen an adult reading a comic book before (!) We had a bit of a chat about the book as we were walking along the platform and he went off all enthused to try to order it from the library. I often wonder if he followed through :)

Looks like there’s going to be a real international flavour to this year’s Booker. And I agree history should feature which is exciting. Looking forward to the list for sure.

Joy D | 10126 comments I have no opinion on the impact of the judges. I just don't know them well enough. I will be reading the Booker Longlist, except for any I cannot put my hands on - there are usually one or two that have not been released yet.

Nicole D. | 1573 comments Yeah, I've been trying to put my predictions list together and I can say for sure it's not diverse enough ...
