James Morcan | 11378 comments A member of the group messaged me to ask if I know the real reasons why Malcolm X was murdered.

I know nothing much about any theories as to why Malcolm X was killed. Never even saw the movie. Does anyone know any theories and have any opinions on the matter? Were the powers-that-be afraid of Islam becoming a popular religion?

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 478 comments I know nothing either but I have a book on my to read list that explores the subject. I always thought it to be a hate crime to do with racism. I believe he was arguing for the rights of all Americans to be treated the same including black Americans.

I am only guessing because it is merely an impression I had -nothing to do with what may really be the story.

Official story is he was assassinated by Nation of Islam for breaking with the group. I've never heard anything different.

Despite freedom of information act requests throughout the years, New York still will not release records to the public and claim files would endanger the safety of police officers and constitute unwarranted invasions of privacy

I get that vibe too, but haven't researched Malcolm X much.
