Finished:
Star Wars: The Princess and the Scoundrel - 3.5 stars. An introspective romantic adventure of Han and Leia's wedding and honeymoon, which of course doesn't go as smoothly as planned. It was fun.
An Enchantment of Ravens - 3 stars - I didn't like this as much as I liked the author's other books. The worldbuilding felt weak in this one. But I still mostly enjoyed it.
Comics and manga:
Demon in the Wood
Dragon Age: Wraiths of Tevinter
Death: The Deluxe Edition
Spy x Family, Vol. 8
Toilet-bound Hanako-kun, Vol. 15
Currently reading:
Into the Light - I got an ARC of this and just started reading last night. It seems like it's going to be pretty intense.
Planned/upcoming:
The Ex Hex
Winter's Orbit
QOTW: I don't listen to music while reading -- not unless it's light instrumental stuff. I have trouble reading if someone's watching TV or talking nearby, too. Sometimes I put on headphones and listen to ambient noise (from ambient-mixer.com) to drown out other sounds so I can concentrate.
We are up in the mountains of Maine this weekend where it is peak foliage season. It is the ski area's fall festival. Also we'll be spectating at the hilarious North American Wife Carrying Championships.
Anyway for books, I'm enjoying Legends & Lattes. I've been enjoying this. It is so far a cozy read. After waiting 11 months for it from the library, I'm happy to finally have it. I didn't want to finish this too quickly and wanted to have it to read this weekend, so I started another book.
I've also been reading Call Us What We Carry. I'll be using this for both the poetry prompt and Gen Z author. This past week was really busy so this book has been good to unwind as I go to bed. I'm not much of a poetry reader and I think some of the poems might be more impactful orally.
My new audiobook is the 3rd Thursday Murder Club that recently came out, The Bullet That Missed. I have loved every one of these books a lot and so far this one is as good and interesting as the rest of them.
QOTW:
I read books almost exclusively as I'm going to bed/sleep. So no music or other distractions. Generally I like quiet in my house. I think if I read during the day I could deal with light instrumental or other light music.
As a teenager I used to listen to music as I read. I vividly recall reading the John Jakes Bicentennial series (the Bastard, the Rebels, etc) and listening to Abba's Greatest Hits LP album over and over. It got to the point where the song lyrics and the story started to blend for me.

A Chosen Exile: A History of Racial Passing in America - I saw this mentioned in a review of the movie version of Passing (which I have not seen, but the book was great), and it sounded interesting. It was fun that the author found some good historical accounts of a practice that was at least semi-secret by definition.
A is for Oboe: The Orchestra's Alphabet - This was posted on FoE for its provocative title. The illustrations are fabulous but the poems didn't really grab me. I'll give it another try before I return it. I think it would be good for a kid about to have a symphony concert experience.
QOTW: I read mostly on work breaks/lunch, so also not really a time for music.
Had a pretty good week, took Wednesday and Thursday off to see Gorillaz in concert and then recover. It was a fun show! Also took the time to make some good art for Drawlloween.
This week I read:
My Best Friend's Exorcism - I liked this quite a bit, I even got a little teary eyed at the end which I didn't expect.
Uprooted - audio book re-read, good narrator for it
Currently reading:
The Bear and the Nightingale - continuing the audio fairy tale trend
The Golden Enclaves - I thought i'd have to wait months for this, I was #88 within the michigan library collective. But i'd requested my home library get a copy, and they did and that bumped me straight to #1!
QOTW:
Do you listen to music when reading?
I personally do not. I would get way too distracted. As is i prefer there to not be tv on, or other noises. Sometimes i'll be in the room where my husband is playing video games but that's hard to concentrate, I usually don't get much actually read. My prime reading times are when i can shut everything else off and not get distracted.
