AND THAT'S ALL FOLKS! We have hit our 52 prompts!

Top:
A book by an Asian diaspora author
A book where the cover design includes text that is not completely horizontal
A book with the theme of returning home

Bottom:
A cultural book that depicts a place or time and its culture

Listopias:
A book by an Asian diaspora author
A book where the cover design includes text that is not completely horizontal
A book with the theme of returning home

Mod Note: We will begin working on our Weekly Threads and 2023 Organizational things today! I will likely have the final list order posted later today, with planning folders opening as soon as the final list order is posted. Weekly threads will go up over the next few weeks, likely out of order, so just bear with us as we work through those... we want to make sure we provide lots of resources for y'all to work with.

Thank you all so much for participating in this process every year! I can't wait to see what 2023 brings us!

Thank you Mods for all your hard work making another annual poll run so smoothly :)

Thank you all readers and voters for the comments and discussions :)

And Onwards to Planning :)

message 3: by Jette (new)

Jette | 334 comments 2/3 isn't bad. :) I'm ready to move to the planning phase.

Thank you, Mods, for your hard work that makes ATY possible!

message 4: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Thank you Emily and all the other mods for putting up with us all during voting! Looking forward to making my plan that I will ignore.

message 5: by Thomas (new)

Thomas thank you to the mods for all their hard work unfortuantely its ended on a real downer for me with two of my downs and none of my ups. Still democracy is the way to do it.

message 6: by MJ (last edited Oct 10, 2022 06:06AM) (new)

MJ | 955 comments I can live with this. Only one of my upvotes got in, but none of my downvotes. I was really hoping the revolution one would get in or the nature/environment, but I’m not the least surprised that they didn’t.

And I’m really glad three got in, thus avoiding another round of suggestions for only one prompt.

Thanks to the mods for putting so much time into getting a new list together!!

message 7: by Katie (new)

Katie | 80 comments Woo hoo!! Glad we reached the finish line and these results are great! 🎉
Thanks to all the mods (especially Emily) for keeping this organized and on track!

message 8: by Joyce (new)

Joyce | 614 comments Thank you to the. Moderators from me as well.

I seem to have come up with an overly serious set of books for 2023 so I’m off to add some levity.

message 9: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments Thank You to all the moderators. You all do a great job every year. As usual the process has been interesting.

Harini (rini11) | 151 comments Thank you to all the moderators for putting in so much effort and making the process exciting and interesting for all of us.

I can’t wait to start preparing my list now.

Thanks to the members for your active participation, and all the fantastic ideas, including those that didn't happen to get voted in.

But thanks to the "A book that fits a suggestion that didn’t make the list this year" prompt, all of those that made the voting cut are technically in the running! This is such a great prompt, imo, for exactly that reason.
(I know a lot of people do rejects challenges, but this is awesome for those of us who don't.)

message 13: by Jill (new)

Jill | 725 comments Thanks to the mods for all their hard work!

Very glad Asian Diaspora got in.

Gem ~ZeroShelfControl~ (zeroshelfcontrol) | 246 comments Thanks for your time and effort, another exciting group of prompts!! Lets get planning!!!

message 16: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 3066 comments I’ll add to the chorus: Thanks to the mods for all you do — both what we are aware of, and probably a lot of behind the scenes that we aren’t aware of, but benefit from nonetheless.

message 17: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 3066 comments Oh, and to clearly show the reason why some prompts need to be re-suggested because their original suggestion week was packed with many popular ideas — the first two “top” prompts this week were “close calls” two weeks ago.

message 18: by dalex (new)

dalex (912dalex) | 2646 comments What they all said. Haha.

message 19: by Anna (new)

Anna (annaik) | 401 comments I am one of the quiet ones, I comment every now and then but usually quiet but read a lot of the discussions. Sometimes I am so late that it seems like everything is already said.

Big thank you to the moderators for the well performed voting process and thank you all for great discussions to follow and learn from.

Of the prompts voted in I have upvoted 24 of them, downvoted 6 of them and been neutral on the rest.

I wish GR let us put in gifs- I would add that one of everyone standing and applauding. Bravo y'all, especially the mods!

Now to start organizing books!

Like everyone else, I thank our moderators for the hard work of this whole process.

message 25: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Paige (shpaige19) | 71 comments How exciting! I'm happy with the three that got in, and even more so looking forward to planning out a tentative reading list for next year!

I usually wait to do any serious planning until the year's list is complete, so now the real fun can begin! I can't wait to discuss all the prompts and hear what books everyone will be suggesting for next year :)

Now back to chipping away at my 2022 challenge...

message 26: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) | 3583 comments I voted for two of these, and I'm happy to see them get in.

Thank you to the mods for all your hard work, and to everyone who worked hard to prepare interesting prompts for us.

Anna wrote: "Of the prompts voted in I have upvoted 24 of them, downvoted 6 of them and been neutral on the rest."

I love this!

Of the 50 prompts voted in, I upvoted 25 (at least one in each poll, and all three from this one!), downvoted 7 (one of those being the multiweek, so actually only 5), and was neutral on the rest. This was probably my best year in terms of how few of my downvotes got in and how many of my upvotes made it.

message 28: by Alicia (new)

Alicia | 1490 comments As said above, all the mods are what makes this group so wonderful!!

I only had 2 downvotes make the list this year, so that’s pretty exciting!

I’m with Ellie that tonight is when the second stage of fun begins! Mapping out my spreadsheet and options for next year, despite knowing I won’t follow it!

Charlsa (cjbookjunkie) | 582 comments Thanks to all the Mods for their time and work to make the prompt choice phase a success.

message 30: by L Y N N (new)

L Y N N (book_music_lvr) | 1045 comments I have been pleasantly surprised this year at how many of the 2022 ATY prompts I was able to fulfill without even trying. As I review the 2023 listing I can easily imagine it will be the same for 2023.

There are only a handful of prompts for which I will need to purposefully seek out a book. There are positive and negative aspects to that, IMO, but overall it makes it easy.

This is the first time I have truly participated in the prompt suggestion/election process. It is time-consuming and yet compelling! I think it is amazing that so many truly unique prompts are suggested. This group is very creative!

These moderators are phenomenal people of patience and dedication, IMO! Congratulations to them for another year's challenge listing completed!

Of course there are people who know how many of the 50 prompts they up voted (or down voted). That is not me. I often vote when a poll opens and sometimes can no longer remember how I voted by the time the results come out let alone 17 polls into the process.

I also am not in the "can't wait to start planning" camp. It is frustrating for me to get excited about reading a book.. and then have to wait until January to read it. For now, I will concentrate on finishing the 2022 challenges and then reading randomly from my TBR list.

message 32: by Beth (last edited Oct 10, 2022 10:39AM) (new)

Beth | 450 comments So excited that the list is complete! I only voted for 1/3 winners this time (Asian diaspora) but the other two should be fine.

Echoing a big thanks to the mods for organizing the voting process. I love participating every year and all the work you put in is very much appreciated!

Now I'm itching to start planning but trying not to get sidetracked as I still have so much of this year's challenge still to finish...

message 36: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (fancynancyt) | 1842 comments Well, those people don't know how they voted, they just kept track! And I am one of those people. Statistics are fun!

I had no downvotes make the list this year, which I continue to be amazed by.

Veronica (ronireads13) | 816 comments Thanks to the mods for everything. I am excited for a new year. Time to get planning. :)

message 38: by Joan (new)

Thank you to everyone who contributed and the mods for moderating!

message 39: by Samantha (new)

Samantha | 1584 comments Thank you to the mods for all your hard work keeping this process going.

I have been with this group since it started and always impressed with how the list comes together - so many great ideas!

I ended up with 25 that I voted for and only 5 that were down votes so can't complain about how things turned out.

message 40: by Mandy (new)

Mandy (djinnia) | 657 comments Thank you for everything!

This was my first ATY and ATY vote. It was a blast!

message 41: by Becky (new)

Becky | 53 comments Thanks for a great process everyone. I'm a lurker who chimes in occasionally, and I love observing the thoughtfulness that goes into each of the prompts as well as the list as a whole. This seems like a great list overall, with just the right amount of stretch prompts for me.

message 42: by Abbie (new)

Abbie | 47 comments Thanks to the mods for all their hard work! Also thanks to all the brave people who suggested prompts and everyone who was dedicated enough to their ideas to research them as thoroughly as they did. It made it hard to vote against some of them.

As for the prompts that made it, “returning home” made me think of Just Like Home. Any other suggestions for coming home to a creepy gothic/haunted house books?

message 43: by Barbara (new)

Barbara Pereira (babitix) | 986 comments Great stuff! Thanks, Mods, for your hard work!

message 44: by Martha (new)

Martha (marthag503) | 517 comments Thank you Mods and people who thought of/discussed prompts for the best year of polling I've experienced. I have one 2022 prompt left to do and then I'll start 2023 planning.

message 45: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 16 comments I don't even remember what I upvoted this week, but it didn't really matter - every prompt was SO GOOD.

Thank you to the mods and all of the people who created and nominated prompts over these last few months. I've already found so many good reads for next year thanks to all of you rock stars. :D

Ooh that book looks deliciously creepy. Too bad that prompt isn't in October, it would be a perfect Halloween read.

I really enjoyed The Drowning Kind, in a similar vein.

Irene (irene5) | 914 comments Thank you so much Mods for everything you do but especially for guiding us through (and bearing with us through) the listing-making process! I had a lot of fun, and I'm sad that it's over!
