James and the Giant Peach question

I think a teacher read this book out loud to us a very long time ago. I only remember the characters calling each other an ass because that's the funniest thing you can read in a book at a young age. I watched the movie, once because the animation scared me so badly. I didn't understand the plot then, but I knew that the bugs and the sharks were terrifying.
