A question I like to ask is 'What book did you think was fantastic but failed to get the attention of the masses as you hoped?'

Although as far as dead authors go, I would really like an opportunity to ask Coolridge, what is the deal with the Albatross? Well that and how did you take so many drugs writing Xanadu (or I guess more correctly, In Xanadu to Kublai Khan decree a pleasure dome) and still get it finished at all?

China Miéville has some strange books, but I find I have reread several of them! He would be interesting to talk to.

The closest thing to talking to Coleridge on these topics is John Livingstone Lowe's classic 1927 study of Coleridge's reading, The Road to Xanadu. It includes the sources of "The Ancient Mariner."

The conclusions have been challenged (it is obviously nearly a century old), but it remains a fascinating detective story, and the documentation has never been matched.

There is a new Kindle edition, with a set price of $49.99, which is being released on January 1, but is now available for pre-order at just $1.99 (!). This replaces an older Kindle edition which I bought a couple of years ago when it was $7.99
