Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments I prefer a machete, thank you very much. Less energy expended.

Some things I’ve dressed as in the past are: Princess Leia, a giant panda, Grogu, a ‘happy’ witch, a cat. This year I’m thinking Waldo. A zombie would be so waaayyy cooler…

Eni | 169 comments For some reason this thread has not been showing up on notifications for me :( damit. Hope i fixed it!

Also i'm pissed off at my kid's school... i can't sleep properly due to pent up frustration *sigh*

Anyways... on a brighter note.. i grabbed The Trilisk Ruins that Jenny read in Nov, and i started Ninth House. Btw i don't show up in the list of "Read by".

My reading this week will be even slower than usual x_x i need to do some research to prepare for parent/teacher meeting on monday.. and because i need to study with my kid, because apparently surprise tests are now a thing.

no worries. And the notifications for this thread are still not working for me... :|

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments GO Team Bearcat!

I purposefully picked out 2 books that I want to read -- one because it's interesting & twisty & the other because it's funny! I added in one that will take me the whole time (probably) so best to start now.
I have literally thousands of books I want to read. Just gotta find the best ones for UNO!

message 113: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I am in heaven having started Mr. Breakfast by Jonathan Carroll this morning. His writing just gives me a happy.

And, listening to Kitty and the Midnight Hour (Kitty Norville, #1) by Carrie Vaughn again after a long time is fun. I like her superhero series much better, but alas, the Kitty series is the one that others like more, so there are more books.

message 114: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Any of you in the states, are you planning to watch the School House Rock singalong on ABC? It is on tonight at some point.

message 115: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 990 comments First I heard of it, Jenny! I looked it up and it just ended. Dang it!

Conjunction Junction....that's the one I think of every time I hear "School House Rock"!

message 116: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Maybe it will be on Hulu later?

I'm just a bill.
Yes, I'm only a bill.
And I'm sitting here on Capitol Hill.
Well, it's a long, long journey
To the capital city.
It's a long, long wait
While I'm sitting in committee,
But I know I'll be a law some day
At least I hope and pray that I will
But today I am still just a bill.

Ear worm anyone?

message 117: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Three is a magic number!!!

message 118: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments I missed it, too. Started watching the Vacation marathon instead…
Now I’m off to read!

message 119: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments That School house Rock special was TERRIBLE!!!!!!

Don't bother watching it, just watch the original stuff instead.

message 120: by Angie ☯ (new)

Angie ☯ | 990 comments Ah man! That stinks!!

Utoh....here it goes again in my head....
Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
Hooking up words and phrases and clauses.

message 121: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Bummer! I loved those things when I was small.... I remember all the words! I loved Multiplication Rock best, even though I'm still a self-proclaimed math-retard. Guess they were that catchy!

When Disney had their sing-along specials during the Pandemic, my husband actually made video of me singing WITH motions! He then played it back for family & friends. Blackmail footage! My personal
favorite? Part of Your World from the Little Mermaid....

message 122: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1012 comments I loved Schoolhouse Rock as a kid - I ended up getting the full set on dvd when my kids were little. We used to put it on shuffle to just play in the background. Jack Sheldon's voice sends me squarely back to watching Saturday morning cartoons :)

That makes me think of another suggestion for our team bearcat's name: Rufus Xavier Sarsaparilla
lol

message 123: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Oh my god, I love that name!!!!!

I also loved Saturday morning cartoons and the like. The PBS station in Madison also played Doctor Who, so that is how I got hooked on that show.

Anyone remember all mighty Isis? Or the Wonder Twins?

message 124: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments Wonder Twin Powers -- ACTIVATE! But I really loved Scooby Doo & Josie & the Pussycats, & Sabrina the teenage Witch. *sigh* The Sabrina series & Riverdale are so dark.... Maybe we were just innocent back in the day.

message 125: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 834 comments Hhmm, I don't really remember School House Rocks, only a bill is the only that sticks out...but I think it's more from movie references than anything else.

Had to look up mighty isis and wonder twins...but I did watch a few seasons of Riverdale :D

message 126: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I got my sister a Wonder Twins t-shirt for xmas, along with a David Cassidy one. Nostalgia indeed!

message 127: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments How is everyone's first week of Uno going? Read anything brilliant yet?

One more week until out first mini challenge! (At least I think it will be in a week...)

message 128: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 834 comments I've been primarily reading romances to start, and none have blown it out of the park yet...not bad, but not brilliant :D

I have these science fictions lined up, so fingers crossed those will be good.

Ogres by Adrian Tchaikovsky And Shall Machines Surrender (Machine Mandate, #1) by Benjanun Sriduangkaew

message 129: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments I haven't read Ogres, but I loved loved loved Children of Time (Children of Time, #1) by Adrian Tchaikovsky .
Have you read that one?

message 130: by Haylie (new)

Haylie Garner (hayliegarner) | 23 comments I’ve been reading never date your brothers best friend. It’s a romance but I feel like halfway through they started throwing the most twists into the story I’m like :0

message 131: by Lauri (new)

Lauri (otwlauri) | 935 comments I am loving A Good Day for Chardonnay so far! Imagine a Sheriff named Sunshine! It’s full of craziness, sass & a raccoon named Randy. It’s almost crazier than Ms. Jones’ Charley Davidson series where your MC is the grim reaper and has a dead Chinese man in her living room…
I’ve also started a few others. I don’t read what I don’t like — unless it’s to ‘take one for the team.’ We’ve all been there, right?

I also started The Ghostway by Tony Hillerman this morning. I love the Leaphorn & Chee series… planning on reading several different serial books this UNO.

A Good Day for Chardonnay (Sunshine Vicram, #2) by Darynda Jones The Ghostway (Navajo Mysteries, #6) by Tony Hillerman

Teddie (teddieg) | 1012 comments Does anyone have 1 or 2 suggestions for a good audiobook? I loved listening to the Harry Dresden / James Marsters combo for that series, but would appreciate a few suggestions :)

thanks team!

Do you have a preference on the type of book, Teddie?

I thought the audio for these two were great, but I might be able to suggest something in a different genre, if you have preferences.

Overachiever apparently.

message 141: by Teddie (new)

Teddie (teddieg) | 1012 comments Thanks ladies! @Angie: I'll read most things really. I find myself getting impatient with some of the more recent YA books, but other than that, I'll give it go.

I'll check these out!

Also, I'm really loving Sleeping in Flame so far, so thanks for that suggestion Jenny :)

message 142: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Oooh yay!!!! I'm so glad you are liking it. I just find his writing so yummy.

message 143: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 2346 comments Hey Team!

Since GR has messed up the perfectly good book pages and substituted the new monstrosities that are hard to navigate in every way, I need you to be careful with the books that are linked on the spreadsheet please.

The captains need to check that the editions you are linking are the ones you are reading for things like cover colors and other tasks that are likely to come up with the mini-challenges.

It used to be easy to check this, and it no longer is. So, please make sure that the book you have listed as read on your Uno shelf is the same edition you are linking to on the spreadsheet.

Thank you in advance!!!!!!!

(I haven't actually started checking books yet, but I know that in the past the editions don't always match.) Stupid GR. I am going to write another letter to the comment section of GR, sine my first two did so much good. teehee

Teddie (teddieg) | 1012 comments LOL - I'm a software product manager and when the new book page launched, I submitted about 5-6 emails with VERY specific suggestions and the why's behind each. I just kept submitting - I couldn't help myself.
