This is true to an extent and the story presented is Ben Macintyre's book Operation Mincemeat: How a Dead Man and a Bizarre Plan Fooled the Nazis and Assured an Allied Victory, is indeed an amazing one. But here is the thing, it is not really easy to read and not all that accessible.

It is the story about an espionage operation which was key to insuring the allies success of invading Sicily, so it is an important story indeed and well worth retelling.

So much detail about so many different people, shifts from one place to the other and so many parts where we watch paint dry. When I finally completed it I was delighted. I also learned that one of the stars of the book had written a book about it and left out many of the details. It's called The Man Who Never Was and they made it into a movie.

I could have used a few less details

There are lots of good bits in it and you read more nonfiction histories than I do, so you might like it.

The Man Who Never Was might be a good way to go, but from my understanding it leaves out some things because of classified information and Ewen Montagu didn't want to include them.

Montagu was at the center of the whole operation.

Joy D | 10082 comments I am just reading this now. I like it a bit more than you, but I think it may be due to listening to rather than reading it. The audio version is very well done.

I read as a DTB. I have so many of them and I need to read them, but I read so much on kindle, that I find that I miss highlighting and looking things up.

I liked the information and the story behind it. Really amazing.

How far into it are you Joy?
