What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

YA late 90s/early 00s. Sci-fi future with children who can surf computers in their minds and are hunted by government. Towards the end at least one is caught but does escape/is rescued.

Does anything on the 20th Century YA and Middle Grade Science Fiction list look familiar?

I have no clue as to title or cover I'm afriad so a long list like that won't help much. If I get time I'll try to start looking through though.

Do you remember if the main character is male or female? Approximate age?

Sorry no, I remember a group of children involved but not the mc's details. like surfing if I remember correctly.

There was no gaming involved that I recall. It was more of an ability which the government found threatening and was trying to catch them.

Doesn't fit the "hunted by government" part but can you rule out Feed (2002, YA, dystopian)?
