Kristie | 19193 comments So, I was thinking about some of my reads and how the same words are used so frequently in book titles. For example, I find that "girl," "wife," and "daughter" are used really often. They are the first "popular" words in titles that I think of. What are some words that you see all the time?

Kristie | 19193 comments As I was typing this I thought of "dark" and "river" as well. I think the words you find most commonly will relate to the type of stories you frequently read.

Katrisa | 4475 comments girl is in sooo many titles!

message 4: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19193 comments Yes! I just did a quick search for "girl" in my books and there were 124 hits. 10 of those were the series name or subtitle and 3 were imbedded, but that's still over 100 just on my shelves.

Roz | 4536 comments “House” is another one for me. I have almost 140 titles with house in the title either straight up, embedded or in a series title.

Jayme | 4533 comments "You" is popular too. I have 100+ books with you or your in the title.

Kabrada | 268 comments "Death" is a very popular word in my crime collection, followed by "dead" and "murder".

message 8: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19193 comments Oh, that is a lot, Roz!

I didn't think of "you," Jayme. There are a lot of those, but they don't jump out at me for some reason. I love how we notice different ones.

Kabrada - Those are definitely popular with the mystery/thriller books. Exactly what I was referring to with your popular words depending on your preferred genre. I'm sure people who read mostly romance or historical fiction, etc would have less of those. I have quite a few on my shelf though. I enjoy those types of reads.

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Night seems to be very common for me, but I do not know why.
I have 120 titles between my Read and Want to Read books.

message 15: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4536 comments I have a lot (92) of those too Cherie. That doesn’t count titles with “night” in a subtitle or combined into midnight pre something like that.
My, look at this list of words….Murder, night, mystery, bone, death, dead, all taking place in a house to a girl, daughter or wife. The things we read!

message 16: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19193 comments Haha, yes, Roz. A bitt creepy if you put them together.

message 17: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19193 comments I was thinking "river" might be popular too, but I only have 15, not imbedded, etc.

message 18: by Fiona (new)

Fiona | 1156 comments I found that I have a lot of books with death/dead/dies, murder and mystery in the title.

Me too! If "book" is in the title I usually don't even read the synopsis; I just add it to the tbr.
