What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I read this in 2016/2017 and it was really good. I can only remember about a 10th of it. What I can remember is that a boy who's father is dead is walking home from school, and a car pulls up. Two people get out, a girl and an old man. They try to explain something but are shot dead by mysterious gunmen. The boy falls over and when he wakes up, the girl and man are alive. They explain something about how he has a special gene in his bone marrow (this was very important) and that his dad also had it. That's pretty much all I can remember about the plot. However, there were 3 books, and the second book had a villain who's name was Alexander something (I remembered it cuz its my name). At the end of the third book, I think the girl dies and becomes a bunch of ravens?
The cover for the second book was "House of Alexander" or something like that, and it was orange. The third was purple with a raven and a circle. I think the author had 2 initials? like R.L. Stine or something. that's all I can remember for now.
