Rating/Review.

**Remember to use the first edition Kindle page count only! If your page count comes from a Kindle edition published on the initial publication date on the editions page, it will count. If your page count comes from a Kindle edition labeled '1st edition', it will count. If your page count comes from the earliest dated English language Kindle edition, it will count. I am looking for one of those three things when confirming your books! As long the page count you list is correct, I will accept any link to the book. Please note that a rating is now required in your completion posts! A small review is also welcome. 😊

MountainKat | 31636 comments I think most of you know each other, at least a little, but feel free to introduce yourself again. Please give any relevant information, especially time zone as that helps know when it is best to communicate. 😊

Please select a team leader to help keep track of where your team is in any given task. And as necessary guide discussions for task decisions. Any teammate can report your completions though.

Remember, it is the team's responsibility to notify the host (me) if a teammate fails to complete the task in a timely manner or otherwise goes missing! I am not checking all the team threads regularly to notice and may only check when notified a task is complete.

PS - If you want to be known as anything other than Team 5, you are free to come up with a team name. 😉

message 5: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31636 comments I have you as a team of three for now. You are more than welcome to invite someone to join you if you know of someone you would like to play on your team. Otherwise, tasks will be adjusted when needed. I am completely certain that I WILL forget to adjust your task at least once! Please let me know if I do and I will correct as soon as possible - ideally contact me in the Q&A thread or by PM as I do not check the team threads until prompted in this challenge.

Vi | 2794 comments Hi Kathryn and Breanna! Nice to meet you both.

I'm Vi. I live in Netherlands, Europe. I read a lot of romance and I'm trying add in more pure fantasy but most of my reading is dictated mostly by the challenges I have joined.

Some team name generated that we can use. I'm horrible at team names so if you have good ones, please let me know.

Nile Gravity Hyenas
Drinking Land Ramblers
The Midnight Generals
The Psychedelic Oysters
Atomic Volley Milkers

Breann | 398 comments Hi team! I'm Breann. I live in Southern AZ. I homeschool my three kids & have a crochet website/youtube channel :)

I read romance and most sub-genres (contemp, suspense, historical, paranormal, fantasy)

I haven't played this challenge before, so I'm excited to start!

Some name ideas:
Read Like the Wind
Light Speed Reads
Pace Cadets
Easier Said than Read

message 8: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I like Pace Cadets.. Let's wait for Kathryn

message 9: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments Hey guys! Really excited to meet all of you! I love Pace Cadets, too, so I'm all in on that idea!

I'm from Northern California, up near the Oregon border. I read a lot of young adult romance, usually mixed with Fantasy, Sci-Fi, or Historical Fiction. I am trying to branch out and read other things, though, as I've left a lot of other genres I love behind in recent years.

message 10: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31636 comments Pace Cadets made me giggle! Let me know if that is your final choice.

I also need to know who is the team leader, small job really. Mostly a point of contact and someone to help guide discussions when a decision is needed.

message 11: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments I say we go with Pace Cadets.

If neither of you wants to be leader, I'm more than happy to do so!

message 12: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Great Kathryn. You can be the team leader. Let’s go with Pace Cadets then. Looking forward to an awesome challenge.

This is my second time so maybe I’d suggest looking through the categories and mark out some of the books/authors/genres that we will need to read as a team together. Then when we get the next challenge we can just start reading.

message 13: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments This is my second time as well, but it's been a long time. Haha. I think planning ahead sounds like a good idea, though.

message 14: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments It all sounds great to me!

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments Okay, I grabbed those for things we may want to keep track of. So, we'll decide what we want to do with those as we go along. Why don't we start plugging away at the ones you've posted so far?

I am pretty open to read most things, as long as it isn't so far out of my wheel house that I can't seem to want to turn another page. I read both in Young Adult and Adult fiction. Fantasy, Romance, Historical Fiction, Sci-Fi, Contemporary, and Horror. I can usually find something in every genre.

So, why don't we start with these two:

1. Each player reads a book by the same author, teams decide author - no pass for this task.

9. Each player reads a book in the same series, teams decide. No pass for this task.

Any ideas or recommendations?

message 20: by Kathryn (last edited Sep 21, 2023 05:01PM) (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments My recommendation is maybe JD Robb for the author? I noticed that Breann reads her. And I noticed that you read Nora Roberts, Vi, and JD Robb is her pen name for her In Death series. That could fit either of these prompts.

message 21: by Breann (last edited Sep 21, 2023 05:49PM) (new)

Breann | 398 comments I noticed J.D Robb as well! She would be easy. Def no shortage of books!

Some others that we share on our shelves (not necessarily read) are Ilona Andrews, Nalini Singh, Jim Butcher, Julia Quinn & Patricia Briggs.

message 22: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments For this one 54. Read 6 books set on a beach or in the mountains, teams decide which
I feel like mountains show up a whole lot more in my books than the beach.

message 23: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments I agree with NR/JD Robb. And I haven't read her latest In Death so if we are asked to read the same series maybe we can choose In Death?

@Breann: I agree with mountains too.

Qn 9 and 82 are similar. So are we going with In Death? Or is there some other series you both would prefer?

Similary, Qn 1 and 51 are same. For that it's Nora Roberts/JD Robb?

@Kathryn, I can delete my post of questions if you like.. then you can track them.

message 24: by Kathryn (last edited Sep 22, 2023 01:02AM) (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments Yeah, I'll make one of the reserved posts our way to track them. I'm also totally down for mountains over beach, as I've noticed much of the same.

Let's go with JD Robb for same series.

I posted the entire task list. In bold, I'll put what our plan is for certain ones. I'll obviously also strike out ones we complete.

message 25: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments For 82, In Death would work too, especially since we all have to read a different book in the series. Vi, will you be all caught up with that series once you read the latest, though?

message 26: by Breann (last edited Sep 22, 2023 03:43PM) (new)

Breann | 398 comments Do we need to let MKat know our team name somewhere?

message 27: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments 29. Read over 750 pages in books about the same profession, teams decide which profession.

any ideas for this one? Wondering if assassin, merc, or duke would count as a profession?

Yes, in the Q&A. 😊

Yes, I do believe that those work work. As they are professions. Assassin is a pretty easy one to find. So is soldier or a royal of any kind.

message 30: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments Also, I went ahead and posted about our team name in the Q&A.

I want to hear from Vi about where they are in the In Death series before I add it to too many of the tasks.

message 31: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments Sorry for the late response. I’m good with In death. I can reread if it comes to that so no issues.

I want to read Throne of Glass - will this work for assassin?

message 32: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments I actually just finished that series 3 days ago. Yes, that would work for assassin!

message 33: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments Assassin works for me for #29

message 34: by Vi (new)

Vi | 2794 comments 55. Read 6 books set in the same country outside the US, teams decide country. -> Is UK ok for this?

79. Read 6 books that have the same romance trope, teams decide which trope. -> Any suggestions for this? Like enemies-to-lovers? or Friends to Lovers?

53. Each teammate reads a book set in one of your teammates' home town (born in, raised in, currently live in - all work), teams decide. -> It'll be better if we go with either one of your home towns. Which shall we do?

message 35: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments 55 - I agree with UK

53 - I live in Tucson, AZ

message 36: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments 79 - either one of those you suggested works for me

message 37: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments Here we go!!

Task 1 - 0. Each teammate reads a book tagged ‘family’ or ‘holiday’ - teams decide.

As we head into fall this year, I am really looking forward to gathering with family especially for the holidays! So for this task teams need to decide if they are reading books tagged as ‘family’ OR books tagged ‘holiday’. Tags are the only qualifier for this task. Include the team decision in your completion posts. Also, please include a link to the top shelves page with your qualifying tag along with how many tags and the top shelves page number in your completion posts.

message 38: by Breann (new)

Breann | 398 comments I'm good with either 'family' or 'holiday'

message 39: by Kathryn (last edited Sep 23, 2023 06:31PM) (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments I live in Crescent City, CA. Only book that would work for here is Wings, which I have no desire to read. LOL.

Tucson, AZ is probably our best bet. So, I'll add that to the list.

I'll also add the UK to the list, as well as Assassin.

I think Enemies to Lovers is a pretty good trope. SO MANY books that fit that.

message 40: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments Okay, so I'm good with family or holiday. I think holiday could be fun, but might be harder to find. What do you think, Vi?

Any examples of books set in Tucson? Just so that I start preparing for it

message 43: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments Okay, let's go forward with "family" then. I'm going to read this:

The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan

message 44: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments As for books set in Tucson. That might be a little hard.

I've found a lot in Phoenix and Tempe, but not a ton in Tucson. I'll be looking if you both want to look around as well.

message 45: by Kathryn (last edited Sep 23, 2023 10:40PM) (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments I found a list of books set at least partially in Tucson.

Here it is

Otherwise, here's a list of books set in Arizona. Might have to sift through them to find one set in Tucson: Here we go

message 46: by Kathryn (new)

Kathryn (kathrynr227) | 225 comments I just realized that is says you can pick places you grew up in or lived in as well.

So, if we have too hard of a time with Tucson.

I grew up between here, Everett, WA, Fortuna, CA, and Eureka, CA.

I don't know how you guys feel about reading something from the Virgin River series, but that takes place in and around Eureka and Fortuna, CA.

Virgin River (Virgin River, #1) by Robyn Carr

message 48: by Breann (last edited Sep 24, 2023 02:10PM) (new)

Breann | 398 comments Yes, I’m reading The Family You Make by Jill Shalvis. I’ll link it when I get on the computer later.

Oh yes and if it's outside US, we can use the country. So we have India, Singapore and Netherlands.. Still slim pickings. I can give the Virgin River series a try. Not sure if it's up my alley but worth a try anyway.
