This month is a "member's choice" inspired by one of our members, Serena. She has joined the PBC more recently than some long-time members and is diligently working her way through previous threads by "time-traveling" back to those months/years and reading the books selected at that time. I love this idea because I have always hoped that past threads would remain of interest to members (especially newer members who did not have the opportunity to discuss them when originally posted).

This is your opportunity to travel back to a thread (or threads) from past years that you may have missed or would like to revisit again (especially older threads when we now have books published in more recent years that would be worth exploring).

I will open this thread October 1st. Let us know on this thread where you'll be "traveling" (list the theme, month and year or a link to the thread) so we can find you, and then post on THAT thread with the books you read this month.
-----------------------------------------------------
An aside for those following our holidays threads this year: we will resume with holidays in November as there are not many religious holidays for October that are represented in picture books available here in North America (where the majority of our members reside) but if you find any please do feel welcome to post here. If anyone is thinking Halloween, we have covered that in previous years and you can "time travel" and post on that thread.
In November, we will cover Dia De Los Muertos and Diwali (if you can find anything for All Saint's Day, Guru Nanak Ji’s Birthday, Jain New Year or St. Andrew’s Feast Day then that's great, too!)

Happy October! I'm excited to see where you are all headed to for our travels back to threads of yore.

I'm definitely traveling to October 2021 "Witches, Monsters, Ghosts & More" because my youngest is really into Halloween and we are reading some fitting books already to kick off October. I love seasonal/holiday picture books (that's what got me back into picture books as an adult, before I had kids of my own), so I always like to see what's new since last year or what's wonderful that I might have missed from years past.

I'm also planning to visit March 2011 to immerse myself and the kids in "Music" -- I love music, though I never learned to play an instrument beyond some very basic piano. I hope to inspire my boys to perhaps try an instrument or at least listen to a wider variety of music. I'm doing a study on music with them this fall and would like to have stories about various musicians or composers to read along with listening to some of the music.

Let us know where to find you on your "travels" and see you there :-)

I will definitely have some music/song picture books to add to the March 2011 music thread. I am also planning on revisiting the cooking, outer space, dual language, alphabet, Charles Darwin/Evolution, and birds topics.

For many of the earlier topics, when we still did "voting for which books to choose from" and then had a club read thread and also a master list thread for a given topic, I am assuming you want us to "time travel" to the master thread?

I originally added my music picture books to the club read but have now moved them to the general list thread.

Yes, thank you for the excellent question. Yes, I the "master thread and general discussion" would be best because that will have the more complete list of books. Thank you!

Ooo, yay! Those were some of my favorite topics. October is a really busy month for us, so I may not actually read more books for the threads beyond my two designated "travel destinations" this month but I will "travel" with you to all of those threads to see what you add and know my to-read list will grow.

Well, Goodreads is supposed to be fun, and as such, do not make it too much of a chore (and yes, your family of course comes first).

However, if you are actually reading a picture book that was featured in a "Club Read" thread then I would suggest time travelling to said thread and not to the general thread.

But how does one actually get to said thread? I type the name of a book that I remember reading for a topic, to find that topic, and there are pages and pages of hits, most of which are from banned books threads, it seems. I've been struggling with this for months... maybe I just need to be careful to choose search terms that are more innocuous.

Do any of you have trouble finding the old threads that you want to see?

I just went through the topics. And you can also type in the topic's name in the search area (it does take a bit of time though).

Ok, I'll do the fun ones, picture books that appeal to your inner child, from Aug. 22: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Because I just read Don't Fidget a Feather! and think it's underappreciated.

Thanks, Serena and Gundula, for helping answer Cheryl's question. Yes, PBC has been active for over a decade so there are lots of past topics. Glad you were able to find a topic that you want to "travel" to, Cheryl. That "Inner Child" thread is one of my favorites. Glad to see what you're adding.

Ah, thank you, Gundula. I do really enjoy GoodReads, but real life has been rather overwhelming lately. I am grateful we have such a great group of co-mods and active members here in the Children's Book Group and appreciate you all helping out when I'm absent now and then (as above with answering Cheryl's question).

And let us know when/if life becomes overwhelming (either here or in the Clubhouse group).
