Winter (winter9) | 5003 comments Hi everyone!

Time to nominate books for December! The theme is Wisdom.

~Please remember to state a connection to the theme when you nominate.

~Books we have read less than three years ago are not eligble. To see which books are not eligble, see this google sheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

~ Each person can nominate 1 book.

~ Book must be available both as a physical copy and as an ebook.

~ Authors: Please do not nominate your own book.

~ Please do not nominate books that are part of a series, unless it is the first book.

~ You can second someone else's nomination, but that will count as your nomination.

This thread will be closed by October 26th, and we will choose ten books for the poll. If there are more than ten books nominated, we will choose "seconded" books first. If there is still a tie to get into the top ten, we'll go back to the Goodreads average rating to see which is highest.

Sally F (sally29) | 5 comments I’d like to nominate Wise Children by Angela Carter - one of my favourite books.

message 3: by Ilona (new)

Ilona | 4698 comments I nominate The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom, about a war veteran who searches for wisdom in the afterlife.

message 4: by Mary (new)

Mary (closer13) | 1 comments Fall of Giants (The Century Trilogy, #1) by Ken Follett I nominate Fall of Giants, book #1 from The Century Trilogy series by Ken Follett. Five interconnected families from the working class and the aristocracy are followed through WWI exploring the impact of societal wisdom on their quality of life.

I second this one.

message 6: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine | 2386 comments I second The Fall of Giants

message 7: by Lina (new)

Lina | 823 comments I nominate Brief Answers to the Big Questions by Stephen Hawking - both because Stephen Hawking was very wise/intelligent, and one can (probably) learn a lot by reading this book - thus gaining (some) knowledge/wisdom

message 8: by SarahKat, Buddy Reads (new)

SarahKat | 6245 comments I will nominate Tuesdays with Morrie.

Connection to wisdom is that it's about a young man reconnecting with his *wise* older mentor. There is a lot of wisdom within the book itself as well. Highly recommend

message 9: by TerryJane, Challenges (new)

TerryJane | 4040 comments I nominate The Secret Wisdom of the Earth, a coming-of-age historical fiction novel set in Appalachia. The connection is in the title.

message 10: by bailey, Challenges (new)

bailey (bailsbookshelves) | 1223 comments I'll nominate The Cloisters by Katy Hays! The story takes place in a museum and the main character "is drawn into a small circle of charismatic but enigmatic researchers" which to me screams 'Wisdom.'

message 11: by Bernadette (new)

Bernadette (bernadettedaniel) | 215 comments My nomination is Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. Wisdom is the capacity to have foreknowledge of something, to know the consequences (positive and negative) of the available courses of action, and take the best of the available options. Steve Jobs fits this definition.

I'll second Tuesdays with Morrie
