Tis the season! This month, we're reading horror comics. If it's horrifying to you, it counts!

Tell us all about your picks and make recommendations for others in the thread below.

Happy Reading!

Evilblacksheep | 85 comments For now I started reading Through the Woods but I'd gladly take recs for the rest of the monthly theme if any of you have some.

I just remembered i also have an horror manga on my to-read pile, so I might tackle this one too : The Drifting Classroom, Vol. 1 (+ Vol 2 & 3)

Evilblacksheep | 85 comments Through the woods was very good. I also read Basketful of Heads after that and liked it even more. Strong recommend if you haven't read it yet.

Just don't read the sequel. It's by a different creative team and it is terrible.

Edward Flynn | 2 comments I'm a big fan of old classic Horror comics and have been and avid collector of the books put out by Yoe Books. The current one I've got my eye on is Haunted Horror: The Screaming Skulls and More.
Haunted Horror: The Screaming Skulls! and Much More

Paul Goracke | 80 comments Mike’s reading of newer “Hellraiser” books last year set me off on completing my collection of 1990s classic Epic “Hellraiser” books and the Eclipse “Tapping the Vein” and “graphic novelllas” of Clive Barker stories.

I’m trying to get through the novellas this month, so it will be one of the few times I add multiple books to the month’s progress.

Evilblacksheep | 85 comments I've read Slash Them All (the french original version but i don't think the english translation can make it worse) and I do not recommend it. I'm only posting about it because it could also apply to next month's theme but it is more than mediocre. The art is cool (and it's what made me pick the book on the library shelf) but oof it is not good.

On the other hand, I also read Did You Hear What Eddie Gein Done? and that was a really good one, either for this month or the next.

I picked this one up more or less on a whim last year and really enjoyed it.

Ed Erwin | 328 comments I read The Night Eaters, Vol. 1: She Eats the Night. While I love the art in Monstress, the story gets too complicated for me, so I appreciate that the creators have made this work more focused on a few characters and with a planned run of only 3 volumes. Recommended, even for those who do like the longer, more complex Monstress.

Nancy | 174 comments Anything by Emily Carroll, including her newest A Guest in the House, is fantastic! I liked the entire Hill House Comics line (but at times uneven), as I am a fan of Joe Hill in both graphic novels (love Locke & Key) and his short story collections. Snow, Glass, Apples by Neil Gaiman was quite eerie and I'd recommend the Bone Parish trilogy by Cullen Bunn.

Max (maxwellatewell) | 57 comments I ended up reading The Red Mother Vol. 1 b/c I liked the cover on Hoopla. It was a good book, but felt like it ended in the middle of story. Daisy's encounters with the Red Mother reminded me of times I would have sensory overloads before learning what disabilities I have.

I remember reading the Red Mother. Parts of it were really cool, a nice slow burn horror. However, it didn't pay off in the end. It just kind of fizzles out and you still don't know what was happening. Boom's dependence on 4 issue trades was a problem as well. 3 trades for a 12 issue story that doesn't pan out is a problem. The art is really good.
