Stefano | 1059 comments Hi, yesterday I created a new series, relating to a series of books on famous people of the 20th century. Someone saw fit to delete it without telling me anything.
Now, given that doing things without saying anything seems a bit bad to me, I would like to put the question to you to better understand whether this set of books is a series or not.

Thanks

Tami (tamicarvallo) | 6987 comments Hi, we can't leave notes when deleting a series because, well, it gets deleted. And your messages are turned off unless you are friends with the person so they couldn't tell you even if they wanted to. I personally don't message someone when I delete a series. If their messages are open, you can try to message the librarian and ask them about their edit. They could leave a note in one of the books but if there are many I wouldn't bother, people sometimes don't read it or they don't check that particular edition. If there are many books it's too much work to leave a note in all of them. It isn't required to do so anyway. And yes, it looks like this isn't a series by Goodreads standards. It's similar to this series https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/... you can create a Listopia for it instead if there isn't one already.

Librarian Manual: Adding books to a new or existing series > Scroll down to Imprints are not series -> https://help.goodreads.com/s/article/...

Also this post: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Determining series for non-fiction books can be challenging.

Stefano | 1059 comments ok, I wasn't conscious of blocking messages.

I read the manual but I've also find this https://www.goodreads.com/series/5287... and this https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/..., expecially on message 30-31. I'm a bit confused.

Tami (tamicarvallo) | 6987 comments Apparently, that's the default setting, you have to manually change your settings if you want to receive messages from all users.

Series get created that don't meet policy all the time. So the fact that a series is on Goodreads doesn't automatically make it valid. You have to examine each one to make sure. I am not the best with non-fiction series. Maybe a more experienced librarian can comment about non-fiction series. That doesn't seem like a series to me. The post is over a decade old so maybe the rules changed. For example, the series in message 40 has been deleted since.

That's a pinned post but it seems quite outdated. Only points 5 and 6 in message 1 seem to apply, maybe the 1st point too though I believe it's a bit of a no-brainer if you are creating a series with a lot of books but it hasn't happened to me.
