Drace (dracenines) | 7451 comments There is cleanup that needs to be done for the US editions of the English translation of The Order of the Day by Éric Vuillard.

1. Paperback Edition: The Order of the Day (9781635420401)

- The description is incorrect and taken from another edition. It should read as follows (transcribed from the back cover):
FEBRUARY 20, 1933: The titans of German industry gather to lend their support to Adolf Hitler. This support makes it possible for the Nazis to assume power.

MARCH 12, 1938: The annexation of Austria is on the agenda. It is a grotesque day, one that will make history. The newsreels depict a motorized army on the move – a terrible, seemingly inexorable power.

Nazi Germany has its legend. But what if behind its first exploits were merely back-room haggling and cheap, self-interested schemes? What if the glorious images of the Wehrmacht triumphantly entering Austria concealed a huge bottleneck of Panzers, a simple breakdown?

Éric Vuillard’s pithy behind-the-scenes account of the Anschluss tells a little-known story of corporate greed, failed diplomacy, and shortsightedness.

2. Hardcover Edition: The Order of the Day (ISBN 9781590519691)

- The description has a significant typo. The “É” in Éric Vuillard’s name is replaced with a weird question mark symbol. This needs to be replaced.

- The page count is incorrect. It should be 144 pages.

3. Ebook Edition:

There are two duplicate editions of the ebook that are each missing information. The following editions need to be merged:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

Once merged, the finalized edition should have the following information:
TITLE: The Order of the Day
AUTHOR: Éric Vuillard
TRANSLATOR: Mark Polizzotti
ISBN-10: 1590519701
ISBN-13: 9781590519707
ASIN: 1590519701
PUBLISHER: Other Press
DATE PUBLISHED: September 25, 2018
NUMBER OF PAGES: 160
FORMAT: Ebook
DESCRIPTION:
Named a Best Book of the Year by NPR, Boston Globe, and Literary Hub

Winner of the 2017 Goncourt Prize, this behind-the-scenes account of the manipulation, hubris, and greed that together led to Nazi Germany’s annexation of Austria brilliantly dismantles the myth of an effortless victory and offers a dire warning for our current political crisis.

February 20, 1933, an unremarkable day during a harsh Berlin winter: A meeting of twenty-four German captains of industry and senior Nazi officials is being held in secret in the plush lounge of the Reichstag. They are there to extract funds for the accession to power of the National Socialist Party and its Chancellor. This opening scene sets a tone of consent that will lead to the worst possible repercussions.

March 12, 1938, the annexation of Austria is on the agenda: A grotesque day intended to make history—the newsreels capture a motorized army on the move, a terrible, inexorable power. But behind Goebbels’s splendid propaganda, an ersatz Blitzkrieg unfolds, the Panzers breaking down en masse on the roads into Austria. The true behind-the-scenes account of the Anschluss—a patchwork of minor flourishes of strength and fine words, fevered telephone calls, and vulgar threats—all reveal a starkly different picture. It is not strength of character or the determination of a people that wins the day, but rather a combination of intimidation and bluff.

With this vivid, compelling history, Éric Vuillard warns against the peril of willfully blind acquiescence, and offers a reminder that, ultimately, the worst is not inescapable.

2. a. Typo fixed
    b. Page count not changed. WorldCat shows 132. What is between pages 132 and 144?

3. a. Duplicate merged. When the merge is complete, I'll recombine the editions.
    b. Page count not changed. What is the source of the page count for this ebook? WorldCat doesn't show a page count for this ISBN.

Drace (dracenines) | 7451 comments Both page counts were taken from the publisher's website. Look for the section labeled Product Details (if you're on desktop, you can scroll to the bottom to see it).

Dobby (dobby0390) | 7860 comments OK, thanks. I changed the page count on the ebook.

Since publisher page counts aren't always reliable, Goodreads uses WorldCat's page count unless someone has the book in hand and can verify that the pages should be included (or excluded, as the case may be). To avoid violating Goodreads policy, I'm going to leave the page count as is on the hardcover. That said, if you have a copy of that edition and can take a look at pages 132-144, we can readdress the issue.

Thanks so much for your help.
