Hi. What about "The Blind Owl" from Iran?

Hi. What about "The Blind Owl" from Iran?"
By Sadegh Hedayat? That would be a brand new author for me!Many thanks,Mahsa Sh!

Thank you for sharing,Mahsa Sh,It's always exciting to find a new author!

Many thanks,Sara! My aim for 2024 is to try to read more World literature and the classics,as we know, are often "quality" reads!

Many thanks,Angie! It will be the first time I've read a novel by Hermann Hesse -I'd be very interested in your opinion if you do read this one.

Yes,Cynda!(If it's the one with Gary Oldman in!)Like you I really enjoyed it.I also saw a live performance in the Belgrade theatre in Coventry,England, many years ago when the company chose to do Hamlet and R&GAD on alternative evenings, finishing with an incredibly long performance which interwove the two plays-wish I'd been at that one!

Thanks,Laurie-if truth be known I've been inspired by others who have been "Reading round the World"before me!Really looking forward to a literary "Cruise!"

Many thanks,Annette!Lots of books here from my TBR list, too, which will be really useful!

Here's some ideas for countries I don't think you have yet:
Egypt: Palace Walk by Naguib Mahfouz
Italy: The Aspern Papers by Henry James
Japan: The Housekeeper and the Professor by Yōko Ogawa
Wales: A Child's Christmas in Wales by Dylan Thomas
Hungary: The Door by Magda Szabó

I have not heard of Coromandel Sea Change! I like Rumer Godden. I put this one on my TBR list already -- thanks for that!
And I hope you enjoy A High Wind in Jamaica and Green Mansions. Both good ones!
And I have to agree with Kathleen -- I would definitely recommend The Housekeeper and the Professor! I loved that one :)
Well, enjoy your trip -- too bad you can't begin your journey until January 1st! You're going to have a lot of fun!

Syria: Arabian Love Poems: Full Arabic and English Texts
Norway: A Doll's House
Former Yugoslavia/present-day Bosnia: The Bridge on the Drina
Hungary: Embers
Albania: The Palace of Dreams
Dominican Republic: The Feast of the Goat

Thanks,Laurie-if truth be known I've been inspired by others who have been "Reading round the World"before me!Really looking forward to a lite..."
I understand. I have a longterm project for reading a book by an author from every country in the UN. I've been slowly working on my list for over 10 years now and I have lots of countries left to read. I hope you enjoy your reading next year.

Thank you so much,Terris! The Housekeeper and the Professor will be on next years reading list!I can see that I will have do the "Challenge Buffet"next year to fit in all the new authors being recommended!

Good idea! And with the Buffet I don't feel like I have to finish every challenge, it just helps me to organize and I still get to mark books off a list! Win-Win!! Have fun planning OR playing it "by ear" -- just read some good books! :)
