What do you look for in historical fiction?

Something that pits a good person who is struggling to understand the realities of life against overwhelming odds and the power of evil. I have 2 very historical novels for you -- both by Dominik W. Rettinger -- Eliza's Secret: Auschwitz Sex Slave and Love and Treason. Both are based on very real historical facts. Eliza's Secret is a deep dive into the psyche of a not very laudable woman. Love and Secret is based on the only Nazi to be executed for treason. He rescued a Jewish widow and her children from the Krakow ghetto during its deportations to death camps.
