L. Werneck | 2 comments I've recently published my fantasy novel, aiming not only to promote it but also to explore the genre's saturation and my efforts to innovate. The market is filled with elves and political dramas, especially after the popularity of Game of Thrones, and the fantasy genre often leans heavily on European influences. My approach differs; I infuse South American elements, drawing from Brazil's diverse blend of European, Native, and African cultures. This unique heritage enriches our folklore, yet it's rarely integrated cohesively in literature.

Enter my world, Iridia. Developed over years, Iridia has evolved significantly, shedding many of its initial elements. One key evolution is its integration of Brazilian folklore, not merely adapting to it but also reimagining European fantasy elements with Brazilian analogues. This process creates a world that's familiar yet fresh and occasionally surprising.

Brazilian readers will recognize childhood elements in a new light, while others will experience a novel fantasy perspective, where familiar aspects manifest differently. For instance, the Kaipaws and Urgunians resemble Forest Elves and Orcs but are distinctly different.

Iridia invites readers to explore new facets of their favorite fantasy elements in a world that diverges increasingly from the norm, yet remains coherent and relatable. It's about crafting stories within a well-developed world, and I'm excited for readers to join this boundary-free, collaborative journey in a culturally rich, shared universe.
