I read The Future by Naomi Alderman and discussed it in the discussion thread.
This was a great book. There was so much manipulation and plot twists that it kept me on my toes and changing how I thought it would end. It also gave me a lot to think about in regards to how companies can take your information and use it for their own means. Very thought provoking.

I read The Future and commented in the group thread. While I enjoyed the premise I found it a lot of work to follow the story. Think it was just not the right book for me right now.

I read The Measure and discussed it in the discussion thread.
A book that makes you think. A lot. About life and death, about what ifs. You follow the stories of several characters, somehow intertwined with each other. It's more of a contemporary society book with the exception of one element, the boxes. But how people act, what people do and think, how they treat each other, discriminate or support - this is what we see every day in our society. And this is what I loved and hated about the book. I often read to escape reality, but reality hits you in the face. The author does a fantastic job depicting human nature in her story.

I read Space Team and wrote about it in the relevant thread. I had not read any science fiction this year so far, but will probably read more of the series before the year ends.

I read The Coroner. I discussed it on the relevant thread. I will definitely finish out the rest of the series. Fortunately, that's just two more books.

I finished reading Ragged Company and tagged it as my third and final 5 star for 2023. I discussed it in the generic thread for the theme.
The story focused on home, homelessness, and community. It seems that Richard Wagagmese's approach to story telling is to hold a spotlight on humanity. Even the most down and out have a story about what brought them there, and often keeps them there.
I was beginning to think I couldn't cry. The last time I cried was just after my stroke a year and a half ago. My face was all wet from tears as I finished the story, that's how moving this book was.

I read The Future and discussed this book in the relevant thread. It was a fascinating read for me with so much in it to think about. I listened to the audio version, however, felt that I would have got more out of reading a hard copy. I am looking forward to doing this early in the year.

I've read The Future and was the discussion leader. It was a very interesting book with a lot of layers and a cunning idea. It's a book, that after reading, it will linger for a long time. At some points the author gave information, just enough, to make your own thoughts about it. The book adresses also a lot of important themes.

I read Fourth Wing and The Women and discussed both in the monthly theme thread. They were completely different books, but both excellent.
Fourth Wing was told from the perspective of a teenage girl who is entering dragon rider training school. It is all about her training and relationships and there is a lot of politics underneath the surface. I'm looking forward to reading the second book in the series.
The Women was told from the perspective of a young woman who joined the army as a nurse during the Vietnam War. It follows her through her service and after her return home. This was a heavier read, but so well-done.
I think both books were really interesting stories and were very well-written by talented authors.

I read The Future and I discussed in the group read thread. I thought that the book had some interesting concepts, and the characters were colorful and diverse. I keep seeing this book everywhere since I read and I recently travelled through the airport and there it was on full display at the bookstore, more than one. I am glad I read it and will try to fit in time to read the author's other book The Power which has a had a number of accolades too.

After you have read your chosen book(s) for this month's group theme read, please report in the thread below.
Please state what book you read (and link it), how it fits the theme, that you discussed it (and where), and briefly summarize what you thought of the book and/or link to your review if you have written one.
If you lead the discussion, please state this in your post.
Here is an example for how to report your read:
“I read Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and discussed it in the [Harry Potter/Buddy Read/Other books in theme] thread. I really enjoyed the book. I watched the film first so I already knew the story line but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the book more as there was more detail involved. Plus I listened to the audio which was narrated by Stephen Fry who is a superb narrator. 4 stars.”
If you read more than one book which fits the theme, please report all your reads in the same post rather than in separate posts.
Please note, there are THREE different badges that can be obtained for group reads. Those reading and discussing one of the two chosen group reads will receive a colorful badge similar to those for previous group reads. Those reading and discussing any other book in the theme will receive a stamp. The discussion leader for the two chosen group reads will receive a badge stating they led the discussion. Maximum amount of badges you can receive for the group reads is TWO - one for the chosen group read/discussion leader and one for any other book in the theme.
In order to receive a badge you must:
1. put your Wall of Fame Name at the beginning of your post as follows: WoF Name - Sandra
2. have read the book(s) before or during December 2023.
3. discussed it in the relevant thread. Discussion must be more than "I read the book and I liked it". Discussion requires something more substantial and analytical of what you read, for example, thoughts, opinions, impact it had on you, what was your favorite part, was it what you expected it to be like etc. You may also like to review the book and post a link to the review in that thread.
4. Report that you have read AND discussed the book
