I know the feeling! We "lost" our Bichon on Nov. 1, 2023, when we had to put her down due to multiple health issues. :( We got a Havanese the day after Christmas and she's now 5 months old. I've never had a dog pee and poop as much as Daisy does, but she's finally settling down. We thought we'd go nuts taking her out every 15-20 minutes, getting woken up 3-4 times a night. We ended up bell-training her to go potty and FINALLY she rings the bells to go out to do her business and she is only going out about every 45-60 minutes now. Plus, she's sleeping through the night till 6:00 or 7:00, so there is a light at the end of the tunnel! I'll post a picture of our little Havanese once I get on my phone, if I can figure it out. What kind of dog do you have? How big will he/she get? Ours will be about 12 lbs. The last time we took her to the vet for her final shot in the puppy plan, she was 10.1 so she's probably now about the full size she will be.

message 463: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 5341 comments I don't know how. :) But she's so adorable and fun. She loves playing fetch and tug-a-war. She's just a joy!

Vicki! We also lost our 15 yr old pup back in August 2023 (also multiple health issues), so we did take a little break until we were ready. We brought our girl home this past Friday. She is a standard size golden doodle. We really love her and are happy, but man i forgot the work came into training them. I was in my 20's when i raised my other two with no kids so i feel like i had alot more patience then... in my 40's, i quickly realized i dont have that same kind of patience. lol No regrets at all, just exhaustion. but i know it will get better...at some point! lol

I also have no idea how to post pics on here! lol

I remember the puppy stage. We got our standard Goldendoodle 2 years ago and I thought it was going to kill me, lol. Now he's a 90 pound crazy child!!

message 466: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 5341 comments Raquel, I am 74 and while I have 5 children, 22 grandchildren and 6 greats, only my husband and I live in our home now. So it definitely makes the puppy training a lot easier and right now she is a whole lot easier than she was even two weeks ago. Good luck to you and I’m sorry about your loss because I know how painful that was. Honestly, I wasn’t ready to get our puppy as soon as we did after our other one died, but my husband was constantly sending me photos of puppies and he wanted another one so badly and was just so ready for another one. I finally decided that I would get one for Christmas, and we got lucky with her because she’s a sweetheart and so fun!

Jamie, that’s a big dog! We also have a 14 year old dog who was abandoned with his siblings when he was approximately 5 to 6 weeks old and just left on the side of the road in a box. My daughter happened to spot him and we already had two dogs at the time and that time our dog who just passed away was six months old, and our other dog that we had was two years old. But we fell in love with Rocky and we couldn’t let him go to a pound or not be sure that he had a good, loving home so we went ahead and brought him home and we had three dogs. He has been a really good dog And he is border collie/lab mix or at least that is what the vet thinks he is. Our other dog who was two years old when we got Rocky passed away several years ago and he was also a great dog and he was Australian shepherd/lab mix, also a great dog!

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry I didn't see this sooner! I have to read Banyan Moon by Thao Thai by March 31, so IF you can fit it for Saturday the 30th or Sunday the 31st we can buddy read it. But Sunder is Easter, so that's not the best day for a lot of people so I don't know if it'll work for you.

I have read several of the books you've listed but 2 that I want to read and haven't are Maame by Jessica George The Keeper of Hidden Books by Madeline Martin

I don't have a specific time frame for those but I'll be visiting family in Florida Apr 4 - Apr 14 so those dates aren't good mainly because of not being able to easily post comments.

Probably won’t be able to read anything this weekend since I’m camping and I actually get zero time to read when camping. But let’s do Keeper of Hidden Books next month, whenever is good for me.
