My Name is Barbra

In this memoir, Barbra shares most everything you'd want to know about her life....and especially her work.
The book is almost 1000 pages but I liked it all. 4.5 stars

In this addition to the humorous 'Josef Slonský' series, the Czech detective has to deal with a severely injured knee while the police investigate several crimes.
Bizarre and brutal crimes in this book, but the humor is great as usual. 3.5 stars

Very fast and enjoyable read: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Counting Pulped I've read everything that Tim Hallinan has written and liked everything very much except for this book. Not a spoiler -- in this book the detective finds out he is a fictional character in a book. Supposed to be different and cute -- I hated it and quit on page 47. One star.

Absolutely wonderful and completely original story of average guy who inherits his uncle's villainy business. Funny, smart and engaging. I loved it. 5 stars.

In this addition to the humorous 'Andy Carpenter' series, the New Jersey defense attorney gets a new trial for a man he thinks was wrongly convicted.
I enjoyed the book but some parts were too dark for a cozy. 3 stars

Marc wrote: "Finished The Exchange by Grisham cardboard characters, plot as told was shorter than the book Huge disappointment for me because I love earlier Grisham books"
My own feeling is that when someone's written that many books year after year, at some point the quality begins to suffer. I've seen it time and time again.

In this addition to the 'Orphan X' series, Evan Smoak's search for a lost dog leads him to clash with a skilled female assassin.
Exciting story as usual. 3.5 stars

This is really a great dystopian story: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

The Last Devil to Die is the 4th by Richard Osman.
More emotional than its predecessors now that readers have formed an attachment to the geriatric Fab Four.

In this clever series, struggling writer Ernest Cunningham seems to encounter murder wherever he goes....then writes a book about it. This time he's on a luxury train.
Fun mystery. 3.5 stars

Guests of the Ayatollah: The First Battle in America's War With Militant Islam by Mark Bowden.
This is a comprehensive recounting of the 444-days takeover of the US Embassy in Iran in 1979-1981. It read easily, like a crime thriller.

Yesterday finished The Beetle: A Mystery by Richard Marsh, first published in 1897. Read in The Penguin book of Victorian Villainies. Very brief review here:

And started a reread, Tales of Terror and Mystery. I'd forgotten how engaging "The Horror of the Heights" is.

Richard Jury #15. I'm reading the series in order and this might be the best one yet. Likeable interesting characters and a very complicated plot equals a top-rated mystery. Highly recommended, 5 stars.
