Michael (brainfog85) | 25 comments Hi everyone! I am a big fantasy and occasional sci-fi reader, and have recently got an audible membership.

I just finished E.K. Johnston's 'The Druid's Call' and am listening to 'Legends & Lattes', and I'd like some more recommendations for a good listen while in the car or at work.

I've recently fell into a Dungeons & Dragons rabbit hole since the release of Baldur's Gate 3, and YA or adult oriented doesn't matter to me as long as the story interesting.

Also, I've been eyeing the Dragonlance series, as the final book in the new trilogy will be released soon. Is it any good?

I appreciate any and all recommendations I can get and will check back here regularly.

Big thank you in advance!

Leonie (leonierogers) | 1222 comments The Illuminae series is a fabulous audiobook series. A full cast, and exceptionally good.

Also, Ben Aaronovitch's Rivers of London series also has an amazing narrator.

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments Fate of the Fallen is a GREAT listen. The narrator is so good.

Monica (monicae) | 511 comments I really enjoyed Borne by Jeff VanderMeer narrated by Bahni Turpin (who is a favorite narrator of mine for audiobooks). Borne is a mix of fantasy and scifi. VanderMeer refuses to be categorized...

Brandon Harbeke | 135 comments I got Audible for a trial period because I wanted to try some Lord of the Rings audio. Andy Serkis has recorded the five main works of Tolkien, and I plan to check those out. Right now, I am enjoying Christopher Lee reading The Children of Hurin.

DivaDiane SM | 3676 comments The Andy Serkis LOTR audiobooks are fantastic!!

message 8: by Kim (new)

Kim | 89 comments Dungeons and Dragons and Baldur’s Gate 3 makes me think of the litrpg Dungeon Crawler Carl . I just finished the second book, Carl's Doomsday Scenario, myself and have been loving them so far. The story is immersive and the two main characters are incredibly likable.

Agreed. Plus The Hobbit. Andy Serkis is a worldwide treasure.

I’d also recommend the Expanse series. It’s fantastic, and the audios are great.

Michael (brainfog85) | 25 comments Thank you for all the suggestions so far! I definitely made my audible wish list a bit bigger.

Michael (brainfog85) | 25 comments I couldn't find either Illuminae nor Aurora Rising on (uk) audible, which is a shame.

That's a huge shame! Such a great cast of characters, voice acted marvellously!

Try looking for 'Aurora Rising' by it's previous title 'The Prefect'.

message 14: by Michael (new)

Michael (brainfog85) | 25 comments Still no Illuminae and Aurora sadly, but I think they'll add it eventually.

So I found out that I really have to like the narrator to keep on listening. Some of the books recommended to me are indeed added to the wishlist.

Current listens for me are:
Gideon the Ninth, by Tamsyn Muir and narrated by Moira Quirk. Excellent character voices, but not exactly a relaxing listen. :)
In the Shadow of Lightning, by Brian McClellan and narrated by Damian Lynch. Such a great voice to listen to, and great for late evening listens too!

I also noticed Michael Kramer, Kate Reading, Emily Lawrence and Colin Mace as narrators my mind agrees with.

So I guess this turned into recommendations from me to you, haha!

FOREVER IS TOO LONG by Chester S. Geier

Forever Is Too Long: The Science Fiction Classic of Immortality

IF YOU COULD LIVE FOREVER, WOULD YOU WANT TO?

A scientist discovers he is immortal. His first reaction is intense happiness, and he makes plans for his future and that of his family. But then he has to watch his family grow old and die, while he stays young and healthy. What can he do with the gift of forever? What should he do? Can he erase from his mind and heart all feeling and the need for love? And worse, can he always be sure of his superiority in a changing world? He will have to answer all these questions and more, when he discovers other immortals and must make a decision. A decision that will change the world far more than even an immortal can envision.

Here is the story of a handful of men and women who lived from the middle of the 20th century into our future. What did they make of their lives? If you found you could live forever, what would you do? Search for wealth, power, happiness...or death? What could sustain you for 200 years? For a thousand? Is forever too long to live?

I read in The Selfish Gene (in fact it was really on a joke site called Cracked), that the human brain can remember up to 250 or 300 years, should we succeed in extending our lives that much. After that, you go cuckoo for cocoa puffs.

message 18: by Trude (new)

Trude Hell (trudehell) | 46 comments I'm currently enjoying Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik as an audio book. The narration is pleasant, the tempo is good and the story so far fascinating.

I'd also recommend Hyperion by Dan Simmons (which presently is at sale for $6.99 (78% off)) - it is a scifi with a feeling of fantasy and I like the narrator.

message 19: by Orikamane (new)

Orikamane | 28 comments I really like older versions of Discworld audiobooks by Stephen Briggs and Nigel Planer. Newer versions are somewhat... Pretentious:p
Stormlight Archives The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson audiobooks by Kate Reading, Michael Kramer are fabulous as well.
Starter Villain audiobook was very good too.
Mary is one of the best audiobooks I ever listened to, but the story itself might not be your cup of tea

štœnetheelysai (say_moon) | 1 comments I started listening to divine rivals as my first audiobook and its really good
