LavenderLane | 98 comments Would this book work for at least three foods on the cover? It has mushrooms and two types of berries, but it’s a fantasy novel so it’s not clear if the berries and mushrooms would be edible.

Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia of Faeries (Emily Wilde, #1) by Heather Fawcett

Aiswrya | 1213 comments Temple by Matthew Reilly is also set in Peru. I love this book, and would love to read it for the mini. But I have 2 other books going and I don’t know if I can finish it in time. If anyone else would like to give it a read, please go ahead!

Ann Sicker | 323 comments I know I am late to the party. Trying to figure the game out! Here is my plan for the mini. Question when does the mini end?
I have added my reading the planning spreadsheet.
Mad Honey - Orange Cover
It would be a night in caracas - set in Venezuela
The crimson thread - set in Crete
A proposal they can't refuse - author name is diacritic

Annalisa | 1573 comments I've got three books I could read next. It is unlikely I'll be able to finish all three by the 15th, as I'm planning to read the backroom BOM, but I might be able to if they are easy reads. I'm going to start with the horns on the cover because it has been a while since I read an alien book and they are normally fast reads.
The Book Jumper by Mechthild Gläser (author with Diatic)
Rumor Has It (Animal Magnetism, #4) by Jill Shalvis (sent in Idaho) or
Chosen By The Alien Warrior (Ixionian Fated Mates #1) by Skyla Stone (horn on the cover)
If anyone knows that one of the other tasks is needed more please let me know and I'll focus on that one after Chosen By the Alien Warrior.

I'm going to say yes. There's no reason to think they wouldn't be edible. (Just checked the spreadsheet and realized all the spaces for this task are full now)

To earn BR discussion points for The Hunger Games the book must be finished and at least three posts of actual discussion need to be made during Round 1.

The BR discussion thread will remain open and please continue to discuss as long as you'd like. The mods will put a post in the thread stating something to the effect of "posts beyond here no long count towards Book Games discussion points". So it will be clear when the window for points has closed.

Deanna | 3529 comments That just leaves us needing 2 more books set in Crete. Anyone has a book to read or a suggestion of good books that would fit the task?

message 224: by Amy (last edited Jun 12, 2024 06:02PM) (new)

Amy | 327 comments I unfortunately don't have any books for the Crete task, but I checked over this list: https://www.goodreads.com/places/3361...
I've read Circe in the past, and although it wasn't the book for me, I think if anyone likes Greek mythology that it's a good one to try! It has great reviews.

message 225: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I also wasn’t able to find a Crete book that my library had or that my library had and didn’t have a long wait list.

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 1069 comments I think I can fit in Ariadne. It's not too long and it's on Libby. I'll add it to the SS.

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 1069 comments Is anyone else thinking the next mini is going to be a little difficult? Not as easy to search for, etc.

Less than 48 hours to go for Round 1!

Please make sure all of your finished books are up to date on the tracking spreadsheet by Friday. I'll get everything added late Friday after work.

The Round 2 tab is ready for books to be added if you need to move books that won't be finished until the next round.

I gave it 5 stars. It was really good but it does have a lot of very sensitive topics. (transgender, suicide, domestic violence)

Deanna | 3529 comments Battle Mini Planning

The mods have given us the go ahead to start the planning phase of the next mini. We're facing off against team 11.

Our title is: The Travelling Cat Chronicles

Does anyone have a book with a title that starts with LES that they will be able to finish reading between June 22-28?

message 240: by LavenderLane (last edited Jun 14, 2024 09:25AM) (new)

LavenderLane | 98 comments Uggh, LES is hard. I’ve looked through all the audio, physical books and ebooks I have and none start with LES!

Lessons in Chemistry works, but I’ve read it and as much as I loved it, I generally don’t enjoy re-reading literary fiction. But, if it’s on anyone’s TBR it’s an option.

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 1069 comments Lessons in Chemistry immediately came to mind...and it's on my TBR. I can definitely read it!

Deanna | 3529 comments Sending our first choice to team 11 now.

message 244: by Annalisa (last edited Jun 14, 2024 01:21PM) (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Is there anything reason to not pick a book if possible that has the full last word as the start? I didn’t see that not being allowed in the rules. I know we already picked but if there was a title that started with Chronicles could we have read that? For example Chronicles from the Land of the Happiest People on Earth.

message 245: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 3529 comments Per the rules:

The winning team will be either:
- the team to make the last completed strike, if not all 20 books (across both teams) are read; or
- the team with the smallest number of overlap letters in their strikes, if all 20 books are read; or
- if there is a tie for number of overlap letters, a coin toss will be made by a neutral mod to decide the winner.

So assuming both teams read all the books, having a smaller number of overlap letters is the next way to win.

message 246: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Thanks. For some reason my brain thought it was the opposite. More overlap was better.

oh woww lol! Happy to read it! Unless you'd like to? We need to read 20 books I think, so we're going to have to read more than 1 each.
