All battle books can be started now.

It's always nice when plans work out that way. There have definitely been some reads where I needed to read something light/fun to help recover from.

Mary,
When you get a chance could you add A Secret Life of Country Gentleman to your challenge shelf?
Thank you!

I'm seeing it now. I'm going to blame this on not having enough coffee before checking books.
Thank you for double checking

I blame things on that all the time, totally get it. And sometimes even after enough coffee, Goodreads still wants to mess with us.
Due to demand, there will be another Backroom BOM set to start July 10th.
Nominations are currently open: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...
For those of you who nominated last time (Lexi and Melanie I believe) Teddie carried those nominations forward. If you'd like to nominate something different (or pull your nomination) just post in the nomination thread and Teddie will make the swap.

That's hilarious! I can't listen to spicy books because it just feels so weird having it read to me, especially in the car!

I can't listen to them either. Reading them with my eyes is fine but when I read it when my ears, I start to blush lol

If you've read Garwood's historicals, especially her medeival ones before, you know how ridiculous they can get in terms of the characters and situations! I laughed multiple times.

I'm so incredibly frustrated. It won't let me delete the other edition. Has anyone ever dealt with this? Not sure what to do here about posting it as read on the spreadsheet.

I don't know if you saw my edit but I'm having a really hard time with the information for this book. Not sure what to do.

Okay, just have whichever it will let you have on your shelf and let me know what the page number should be. I'll make a note.
GR is cray-cray sometimes

I've listened to a few out in the public and I am very conscious of keeping my face neutral 😂

Vikki and Kim,
are you both still on target to finish your reads by the deadline (a bit less than 20 hours)?
If not give a shout!

Mini challenge for Round 2 is up!
Build Your Shelter Mini Challenge
Learn how to make the best shelter
Read books with the following MPG to create your shelter. Your team can read each genre a maximum of 3 times:
Non Fiction
-Specifically focused on survival in extreme conditions, wilderness survival, or emotional and psychological resilience.
Romance
- Use the bed sheets for a tent!
Science Fiction
- To gather some advanced materials for your shelter.
Historical Fiction
- So you can lay the foundations and learn from the past.
Mystery
- Enhancing your problem solving skills.
Thriller
- Create a camoflage and protect against the unknown.
Fantasy
- Enables you to use magical elements to strengthen your shelter.
Nature
- Use the nautural elements to survive in your shelter.
Contemporary
- These will give you new ideas for patterns and methods for creating your shelter.
Young Adult
- No shelter is awkward, and therefore complete, without a love triangle.
Literary Fiction
- You may need to take your time making a shelter, so this genre will help build your patience.
Crime
- They are out to kill you. Use this genre to build a shelter that is protective.
Horror
- Will help you be on alert and create natural alarm systems for your shelter.
Paranormal
- So you can communicate with with spirits and other entities to maintain peace in the shelter.
Create the walls
Create a series ladder for the walls by reading books in a series. You need 8 series book in order (which can include multiple of the same series but doesn't have to) to create each wall. Each series book must be a whole number for the wall.
You are creating up to 3 walls.
You can add in one .5 book (that meet the usual challenge requirements in terms of page count) per wall for windows. The window has to be in the run of the series numbers (you couldn't have 3.5 window in a wall made up of series #5 - #13). Windows have to be within the range of your wall, so if your wall is #2-9 then the window can't be either #1.5 or #9.5.

Now for the door
Steal shelter books from other teams to make your door.
(This means reading a book another team has already read for their 'shelter' category.)
Get creative about how their book would be a door.
Is it a brown cover and therefore you are using it for your wooden door?
Does it have a door on the cover? That's obvious and not so creative, but, hey it works.
Does it have a character who is a builder? Great - get them to build your door!
You will need 4 books to complete your door.
◈ Every book read, i.e. every task completed, is worth 5 points. Each book can be used for one task only.
◈ Books for tasks can be finished in any order. No need to complete each part in order to get the points.
◈ Books can be started at any point since the start of the Book Games challenge (May 15).
◈ Books need to be finished after the start of this mini challenge on July 1st 9am UTC
and before July 15th 9am UTC.
◈ Books used for this mini challenge do not need to be separate books from what you are claiming for your main tasks.
◈ The usual book length rules apply.
◈ Team spreadsheets will be updated with a mini challenge tab so that you can track your books and claim your points.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

tabs are being added to spreadsheets now, in a little bit I'll have a tab added to our tracking sheet for the mini
The a tab for the Round 2 mini has been added to the tracking sheet.
We are limited to 3 books per genre. I have a table tabulating the genres claimed on the side. If we hit more than 3 it'll turn red.
If that happens, let us know and we may be able to find a new spot for it on the mini, use it for a supply drop, or maybe it doesn't get used for the mini (which is completely fine!). Some books can be used for multiple genres so it might just be a simple shuffle.
Let me know if you have questions!

Also, I locked the formulas on the Shelter tab. People should be able to edit for the genre drop down menu but otherwise you shouldn't be able to edit the cells on the Shelter tab. It will pull the info from the Round 2 tab.
If people have issues with the drop down menu, let me know. Since I have permission to edit everything, I can't check to make sure the protections are working as they should be.

One thing we should probably discuss as a team is what series number do we want to start with for each wall?
I'm assuming for 2 of the walls we'll probably start with a #1 in series. And maybe we want to do that for all 3 walls. But I do have some slightly higher numbers (like 10) that I have on deck if others do as well. And we can start with a higher number depending on what people have in the tbr.
