Great! I can always find whatever on KU but if people have books they actually want to read, that saves me from reading some potentially horrible books. LOL

Also, for the door books.

I'll go through the other teams' sheets and make a reference sheet for books they logged as 'shelter'. Then all of the options will be in one spot and save multiple people from hopping from sheet to sheet.

That'll be in the tracking sheet later today.

So true! There are only so many M/M magical unicorn d***do books one can read...speaking from experience. 🤣

Tricia (books2hooks) | 479 comments I don't really understand the new mini yet but if we're looking for series book I'm currently reading the Singing Hills books. I'm on number 2, and have 3 -5 here that I can prioritize. Is that useful?

message 555: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Yes, the 3 to 5 in series would be very useful. I think 1s and 2s are going to be fairly easy.

I'll break down the Round 2 mini at a high level in the next couple posts. It has 2 parts.

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Part 1 of the new mini is genre based and pretty straightforward. There are 14 genres and we can fill 3 of each genre (list on the main page on the book's GR page).

The genres are:
Non-Fiction
Romance
Science Fiction
Historical Fiction
Mystery
Thriller
Fantasy
Nature
Contemporary
Young Adult
Literary Fiction
Crime
Horror

Part 2 of the mini is to build 3 walls with windows and a door (side 4).

Walls:
These are built with a series ladders of 8 books each. So we start with a book that is in a series, say #3 and go all the way to #10. We cannot skip numbers. We need 3 ladders of 8 books each.

Windows:
We need one book that is point something that fits in our range for the wall. Playing off the example above something like a #5.5 would work because it falls between #3 and #10. We'll need 3 of these.

Door:
We read books read by different teams that were placed in their shelter resource piles. And connect in some way to building the door (door on cover, construction worker as a MC, whatever we can dream up).

message 558: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I have a #4 I was planning to read. I know I have a zillion other things once I look at my TBR some more.

message 559: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (books2hooks) | 479 comments ok that's making a lot more sense. Let me look at my urgent tbr and I will see what series numbers I have on deck.

message 560: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (books2hooks) | 479 comments Okay, as for Series: I'm currently reading two books that are #2s in a series and I can wait to finish them after July 1st. I have a #1 that I really want to read, so that's a done deal. I have a #3, #4, and #5 that I could read if you needed me to, but I'm less excited about these.

Windows: I don't have any books that would qualify unfortunately.

Doors - I looked over the list and there are several that I have on my TBR. I could read one for sure, maybe 2 depending on how many books in the series I need to read instead. :)

Why don't you start with the 1 and 2s (I'd leave the second #1 spot open for someone else to grab) and we can see what other people have.

I definitely have a #3 I can read to finish off a series

Great job on the Battle everyone!

Both teams read all 10 of their books so it was a Draw!

Mary | 164 comments Just catching up to all the new news here, very exciting!

It has been a long week and I am fried. I just tried for about 5 minutes to update the wrong spread sheet for my BOM comments, so I am NOT hopeful on how much of these minis I am going to understand tonight. But I promise I will get it together lol

I'll have to check it out. I haven't read a good conspiracy book in a while!

message 566: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (mvalente89) | 1026 comments I'm planning on continuing both the Sebastian St. Cyr and In Death series next week so I can cover a #7 and #8 respectively from those series.

I have another #7 I can read as I was planning to continue the Detective Ellie Reeves series so I'll move that up my TBR if no one else has a #7.

I also have a #5 that I'm in the middle of and can wait to finish until after July 1st.

I have a couple #4's and a ton of #1-3's on my immediate TBR so I can fill spots if needed there. I know the earlier numbers are a little easier so I can look for more later numbers if someone lets me know what's needed. I have too many series I'm in the middle of so I'm sure I have something for each number.

message 567: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) I looked again and I have #1 to #6 in a series (different series) that I could read. I'll have to look and see where I am in some other series that might be higher than that and then see what I have for .5

If people want to start claiming spots for the walls, go ahead and then we can see where we are at.

In column H next to the table for the series ladder, I put numbers so it's easier to see what number goes where.

Did we want them all to go 1 to 8? I am perfectly fine with that I just wasn't sure what people had on hand

I LOVE the Sebastian St. Cyr series! I haven't met anyone else who reads them so I got so excited. I am probably too far along to be useful for this challenge though. I think in the teens somewhere. Same for In Death - slowly working my way through it the last few years and am in the 30s. Eve is so amazing.

I'm good with any range, but 1-8 is probably easiest.

message 574: by Tricia (new)

Tricia (books2hooks) | 479 comments Can one book count for both walls and the genre part of the challenge?

message 575: by Logan (new)

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments I've got multiples for #1-6 and 8 and 9. #7 is where I am lacking but anything else I can cover easily. I just downloaded a bunch of the upper numbers to my Kindle so I'm set to start after I finish my current read.

I'm usually reading a lot more than I have been so I'm going to make up some ground this round! I'm also going to start the Back Room BOM for those bonus points.

Remember books for the mini can’t be finished until July 1st

Each book can only be used once for the mini

message 578: by Judith (new)

Okay, it sounds like 1 to 8 will be easiest to do for all 3. Not surprising but don’t want to assume 🙂

we can't start the mini's until 7/1 right?

message 580: by Mary (new)

Mary | 164 comments Sorry to interrupt the mini planning, but if any of you were on the fence about reading The Wishing Game for the BOMs. It is really good and you should go for it! I'm a little more than half way through and really enjoying it.

Books can be started whenever (as long as it was after the games started). Just not finished before the mini starts.

The only books with firm start times are for Battles.

It's probably not for everyone. There are MANY books I felt like everyone but me liked.

message 585: by Kim (new)

Kim | 68 comments I started an audio today. If I don’t finish it by tomorrow I’ll add it to the mini challenge. Anyone else a Lisa Jewell fan?

message 593: by Lexi (new)

Lexi | 4254 comments Tricia, you can have my #3 series spot as that was one I was potentially considering over ambitious as I have trouble focusing on really long high fantasy while working in the field. I’m not sure I’ll finish it in the next two weeks.

message 597: by Emily (new)

Emily | 1278 comments So I was told I can use any books from May to current but looks like those are not needed. Do I just post on Round 2?

To introduce myself live in Portland, Oregon. Love to read, craft, garden, cook, movie lover etc. Grandma to one girl, mom to two girls and wife to one husband.

message 598: by Kim (new)

Kim | 68 comments So I didn’t finish my audio yesterday so I can count it towards a category. Do you think Crime, Mystery or Thriller is needed more?

message 599: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Emily, you can use any book that you started after May 15th but only if you finished it on July 1st (basically today since you hopped right on board) or later.

Sorry if the message was confusing 🫤

message 600: by Judith (new)

Judith (brownie72011) | 7435 comments Mod
Kim I would say mystery or thriller as they have 1 each right now. Crime has 2.

But not sure it matters most books fall into all 3
