Elanna | 31 comments Hi all, I am a very inactive librarian, so I would like to make sure I don't make a mess here.
I added Our Connemara walks by Patrick McGinley and Amelia Joyce. It's a small, self-published hiking guide that can be found in biodiversity park shops and in bookstores in the west of Ireland, and I own a physical copy.
Now, Patrick McGinley on Goodreads is a two-headed monster author, half Brussel-born, 47-year old thriller writer, half old Irish novelist born in 1937.
I don't know either head of the monster, but I think I can find enough info online to tell apart their books - well, also, the fact that one is published mostly in Dutch may help.
I am not sure whether MY author is a separate person or the same 1937-born Irish novelist. I'll find out by asking booksellers and librarians here in Galway.
My question is: once I am sure who wrote what, can I put an additional space between the oldest Patrick McGinley's name and surname, and if needed two spaces between MY Patrick McGinley's name and surname? Is this the correct way to go about it?
I already did it with one additional space for MY author, because i would like to spare the world a three-headed marvel.
I'll check the Librarian Guide about adding biographies for authors, if it's allowed that may help avoid confusions.
Any advice?

(Edited for clarity and some typos)
(re-edited to correct to McGinley)

Could you provide links please. Goodreads search does not work well except if you search by ISBN.

Renske | 12221 comments It seems the author name is Patrick McGinley, not McKinley to prevent confusion.

In this case there should indeed be three author profiles. One author stay on the default 1-space profile, the other get the 2-space and 3-space profiles. If your author has only one book it is the most logic to move him to the 3-space profile.

Elanna | 31 comments Yes Renske, I'm an eejit, it's McGinley...
Carol, sorry, I was writing on mobile. I'm gonna add links as soon as I have my laptop at hand.
I also wrote late at night, and I was sleepy, hence the mess!
My author has three books, two of which don't seem to be on Goodreads, I am gonna check whether he is the same guy from 1937, which I doubt (too young? not mentioned anywhere online as a quite famous published novelist of international fame?) but you never know.
For now, I'll split them in three as per Renske's advice.
Thank you guys for your patience and your help! I'll post when I'm done.

Elanna | 31 comments I divided the authors as follows:

Patrick McGinley

Patrick McGinley

Patrick McGinley

There is still a lot to do, in terms of multiple versions of the same book to be merged in different editions or deleted if they are doubles with no shelving; in terms of covers to be added where possible; and in terms of two more guys with the same name still mixed with the first Patrick - an American academic with covers and titles mixed up, writing with other people, and a guy from Butte, USA, who kindly put an L. in between the names in one of his books, and for now goes under Patrick L. McGinley so I don't start screaming.

I will get to it when I have a minute, now it's time for bed.

I will also create better profiles when I have time to check the guidelines.

Please remember that the author has to be changed on ALL editions of a title.

And it is not necessary to create a Librarian Note (that will be visible on the combine page) for comments like this. For such comments there is the "change comment" at the bottom of the edit page, that will be logged in the changelog of the book.
