I am so sorry the thread is so late! This month really got away from me. We'll have a shorter nomination and voting period this month as a result. The poll will go up on May 28th (evening).

June's theme is Man Versus Nature. In other words, the central conflict is humanity battling, confronting or attempting to survive natural forces, be it weather, harsh environment, or wild animals So let's nominate action/adventure novels with this theme.

Please check the list of previous group reads as we may have had other books we've read that might fit this theme, and they aren't eligible to be nominated again. Also make sure that you are following the other guidelines below.

Group Read Nomination Guidelines:

1. One nomination per group member. The books must be nominated with a Goodreads link by clicking on 'add book/author'. Non-Desktop/Laptop members: What you can do is find the book, copy & paste the URL into your comment. Between that, the book title & author, the mod will be able to quickly make sure she puts the correct book in the poll.

What I just did:

On my Ipad, I looked up the book, and clicked on the icon that means share/save/copy. It looks like a tray with an arrow pointing downward. When I clicked on it, it takes me to a screen that gives me options for how I want to share the link, and I clicked on "copy". When I went into a thread, I held my finger down against the open comment browser and a message that says "paste" came up and I clicked on this. Then I was able to paste the link into the browser. It works this way too.
If a book does not have a Goodreads link, it will not be added to the poll.

2. Books need to be readily available, ie, in print (able to buy new or in ebook format).
3. Books should have some degree of action/adventure content.
4. Past group reads are not eligible to be nominated again. The past group discussions remain open for members to comment. You can view the list of past reads here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

5. Books must be either standalone or first in a series (or they may be later in a series if constructed to be read as a standalone).
6. Authors are asked not to nominate their own books or solicit nominations from members.

Agnieszka (agnieszka7) | 237 comments I nominate A Cold Day for Murder (Kate Shugak #1) by Dana Stabenow A Cold Day for Murder by Dana Stabenow Kate Shugak (Investigations) #1
(you don't have to read the prequel to understand this book - though it's fun and gives you some idea what to expect)

Kate Shugak is a native Aleut working as a private investigator in Alaska. She's five foot, one inch tall, carries a scar that runs from ear to ear across her throat, and owns a half-wolf, half-husky dog named Mutt. Resourceful, strong-willed, defiant, Kate is tougher than your average heroine – and she needs to be to survive the worst the Alaskan wilds can throw at her.

Somewhere in twenty million acres of forest and glaciers, a ranger has disappeared: Mark Miller. Missing six weeks. It's assumed by the Alaskan Parks Department that Miller has been caught in a snowstorm and frozen to death: the typical fate of those who get lost in this vast and desolate terrain. But as a favour to his congressman father, the FBI send in an investigator: Ken Dahl. Last heard from two weeks and two days ago.

Now it's time to send in a professional. Kate Shugak: light brown eyes, black hair, five foot one with an angry scar from ear to ear. Last seen yesterday...
