Lance Morcan | 3058 comments Hey Undergrounders!

James and I have run out of ideas for group polls...

So please submit your ideas for upcoming polls. Please suggest subjects that you think relate to "underground knowledge" and we will select the best ideas to set up new polls for.

Thanks and we look forward to your ideas.

Lance

I like that one Krishna. And who (really) made them? And how? We'll add it to the list...

Tim Pyke | 26 comments Maybe you've already done this but could do a poll on whether you believe there was a previous advanced civilisation that was destroyed by a great cataclysm. Some theories suggest this may have happened circa 10,000bc. But there are also out of place objects like a circuit board that was millions of years old or other evidence as discussed in forbidden archeology by cremo...

Just submit whatever ideas you like, Eric.
Surely you can see, given all the controversial topics discussed so far, that no topic in society is off-limits especially subjects as ordinary as people's sexuality.

Are you thinking of a poll asking whether people think gay marriage should be legal?

Janith Pathirage (pathirage) | 135 comments I like to see a poll about mysterious dark people who might have had supernatural abilities, like Grigori Rasputin. Another one about super evil individuals like Ivan the Terrible and Dracula (I mean prince Dracula , not the bloodsucker :D ). We can discuss what made them tick.

A timely suggestion!

Kevin Coleman | 17 comments The Roots of Coincidence
Arthur Koestler explores the phenomenon of the Psychic much earlier on , citing research from the 1930s. A lot more has been investigated since.
Consciousness is still a core mystery , notwithstanding a massive amount of physicalist research collated by Antonio Damasio, (Decartes Error) and others. Being married Flavia, who is a gifted clairvoyant , I am convinced of the validity. Applying scientific methods is possible, but not the so called "Double Blind Controlled Trials" so loved by Big Pharma.

message 14: by Tammi (new)

Tammi | 18 comments I would like to suggest a poll on Child Protective Services, the name differs depending on your location. The entity that alleges to protect children and save lives. The poll could be something like 1) Has CPS interfered with your ability to parent your child? 2)Has CPS removed your child for no reason? or
3)Do you know why Child Protective Services is removing so many children from safe parents? Is a safe childhood becoming endangered due to government interference? Could Child Protective Services be part of the Child Trafficking Rings, perhaps the leaders? Are Children being sold by the government, for the government or to government officials ? if you would consider any of these topics re: children that would be wonderful. Thank you

J. Gowin | 136 comments Lately, American politics has started a new cycle of people exclaiming that this or that is unconstitutional. Having read the U.S. Constitution, I usually ask them which article, and they start mumbling. I've come to the disturbing conclusion that most Americans haven't read the single most important document in the country. Is this normal?

Could we have a poll to ask how many members have read the founding documents of their native governments?

Ian Miller | 1422 comments Iain wrote: "Going on the latest news announcement that Elon Musk may 'throw his hat into the ring', in the world of news, by developing a web platform that allows for journalists and their work to be graded on..."

It would probably make the news media more chaotic than it already is, but maybe there could be a way of filtering out the truth

message 24: by James, Group Founder (new)

James Morcan | 11378 comments What's your feeling about Musk, Ian?

message 25: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1422 comments On the assumption that I am the Ian, I think that Musk is a visionary, but I am yet to be convinced he has what it takes to succeed. The electric car is something that is needed, but the real need is the battery. The current lithium ion battery production cannot really be expanded because there is a shortage of cobalt, needed for the cathode. Manganese works, but the lifetime of the battery flat-lines too soon. So I am not convinced he gets the details right. The Tesla might look good, but his company is still burning money furiously.

Who knows about the space venture? I think the little NZ space company will show a profit first, but I may be wrong.

As for the news reporting idea, idealistic, but can he make it work? I suspect it is too difficult to get people to run it that don't have their own agendas, and again, how will he make a profit?

message 26: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1422 comments Oh dear, my grandfather actually came from near Wick, so I assumed my name was spelled consistent with the Scottish version.

Yes, I overlooked the hyper loop. Careless because I had a variant of that in one of my SF novels.

Cobalt can be recovered by recycling, but the biggest use of it is used in the lithium ion batteries for computers and phones, and each one has a few grams. It is OK now for the current production of car batteries, but very few cars have them. The problem comes when you ant electric cars to predominate. Cobalt is mainly a byproduct of copper mining, and there are very few mines with it in good yield. Most comes from the Democratic republic of Congo.

Alternatives MUST have a viable change of oxidation state (to store and release charge at the cathode) and there are a number of candidates, BUT because you want the cathode to conduct electricity, it has to be mechanically stable. The problem with ALL the competition so far is that in general they change size too much when they change oxidation state, which degrades the structure of the cathode - it is not so much that the cations stop working, but they lose connectivity. Ultimately we will probably need a different power source.

message 27: by Ian (new)

Ian Miller | 1422 comments There will be cobalt everywhere. If you are asking, what is the likelihood of there being cobalt ore on these other bodies, as opposed to cobalt atoms being distributed amongst the basalt, you have to realise that ores depend on geochemical processing. In general, asteroids won't have them, but iron-rich meters and iron-cored asteroids might have some in the iron (the processing, in my opinion, occurred in the accretion disk). Mars has only had very limited processing, but at least cobalt would not have been swept to the core with iron because there is little core there. My guess is cobalt on Mars will be distributed across the basalt in a very dilute form. Not promising, but I suppose I don't know exactly what happened in the volcanic regions.

What's happened to her? Has she gone missing?

message 30: by Aprilroxane (new)

Aprilroxane | 5 comments I believe the media has said she hasn’t been seen in 3 weeks. I didn’t think anything about it until her last post; it’s the same writing style as Donald. Several of our media outlets are beginning to take her absence seriously. No photos or appearances. Also, she could be recovering from surgery, but Donald has started saying, “she’s in the White House.” Odd way of answering the reporters when they ask how she is.

message 31: by Aprilroxane (new)

Aprilroxane | 5 comments Experiencing depression is quite possible. I hope she seeks help, if this is the case. Donald does seem to enjoy parading her around. I hope whatever is going on, she’s able to rest.

B. | 273 comments Would like to talk about the historical Buddha....Siddhartha Gautama I.e. is history about him reliable or fiction much like Romulus and Remus of Rome fame?

If there are good historical accounts, what are their sources?

This major movement was started 2500 years BC and is descendant of Hinduism...did this religion/philosophy naturally spring forth from Hinduism over time or was there really a Buddha that marked its origin?

message 33: by B. (new)

B. | 273 comments * approx 500 years BC, not 2500 sorry

Jim (jimliedeka) Stephen has a good idea. Maybe we need a thread somewhere for the best evidence for various theories. Probably not one thread but one in each category - alternate history, 911, Kennedy, etc. Maybe a best evidence thread for each category.

[Edit] Forgive the awkward phrasing. I hope I got the idea across.
