I UPDATED MY SEARCH TERMS AND FOUND IT! it’s “All-American Puppies: #1 New Pup on the Block” by Susan Saunders and the main character’s name is Jake
apparently I only had book one because the others were not visually familiar. the train part must just be in the middle of book one!
